Eley VIP Game 30g no6

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Going out on Saturday for my first go at driven pheasants, I have been invited to shoot with a syndicate I'm looking to join next season. Was sorting through my cartridges and would like to know what people think of the Eley VIP Game 30gm no6 for shooting pheasant?

Thanks

I also don't rate any Eley game cart and have tried most, along with VIP when they were in green with inch high brass.Still got some for my 28 bore that will be used on clays not game.

If it's what you have use them. If your going to buy some there are better. RC sipe or dark storm, express supreme. Hull also do a good range all with the same velocity, high pheasant are a good cartridge.

Hope you have a good day and the syndicate is a good one, with plenty of good craic.

I know of a few who hate them too. You know when you use a cartridge you like by the results you get. My favorite cartridge is Caledonian XL but they only come with a plastic wad.

I like my game carts to be as close as possible to my clay carts to shoot. VIP don't come close for me.

I think the best value is the Blackgold fibre wad 28 gram 6 or 6.5 clay load. Smooth quick and does the job.

Thanks for the comments everyone, I will go with the VIPs for now then pick up a few single boxes of different game carts to try before next season.

go with them as I've shot 13 pheasant 16 mallard and 2 rabbits, with them eley 30g no 6 can do the job because I ain't no good shoot.

I have used Eley GP High Pheasant for the last few years but I now need to re order and they have been discontinued. Last Tues I tried some VIP 30gr 6 shot felt wads, very smooth and killed well. I liked them better than the Express version. Am picking up a batch but in 5 shot my preferred choice this week.

They are what I have used the last few seasons and a few others in my syndicate use them as well, I cant complain, I did buy a box of Sipes at the start of the season and they knocked the hell out of me so I will use them in my semi for pigeons, each to there own I guess.

Its a personal thing but I find them the best - 30 or 32 gram 6's, liked the old brass case better though. The only other cartridges I would rate as highly were some Winchester I used on duck - before the LS ban, more like using AA shells.

VIP have proved so perfect for me that I haven't used anything else for game but would try the Proper Cartridges equivalent.

Just make sure they are fibre wads and that you take some steel if there is a possibility of duck, geese etc.

Unless you are taking most of your shots in excess of 40 yards then 34gr/36gr are to much unless you are goose shooting, 30gr of 5s will do everything out to 50 yards given good placement for pigeon, pheasant etc.

34/36gr in a lightweight OU will be uncomfortable, in a SBS pretty painfull.
