spinach
My brother in law age 49 massive heart attack and by the sound of things very Ill. Good bloke enjoyed a pint and a glass of red but fit and active. A month down the line and he's stuck at home 15 to 20 mins walk and he's whacked. He's coping well but he's cold all the time heating needs to be on and layers. I said I'd send him my thermals but I know the Smelly Hellys would be good except I'm going to get him a set I know what my recommendations would be but anybody any views coincidering he may well be sewing himself into them!! Silk ,wool or man made ? Ski, or just thermals. John. Saw some Jack pyke almost padded looked **** but looked like they'd get hot.
Grandalf
If he is going to be wearing them all the time - then silk. Light but warm and you just wash them like your shreddies.
ack-ack
If he's going to be taking it easy is he at risk of DVT?
Torbruk
An electric under blanket and a hot water bottle held to the abdomen might be a better bet. Also recommend a goose feather duvet. However as Ack Ack suggested, laying dormant will reduce circulation, and thus increase the risk of clotting. I'd seek proper medical advice or ask him to do so. welsh1
If he is stuck in the house and cold then as daft as it sounds a onesie could be the answer, this one in mountain warehouse is a bargain and would make you warm as heck, http://www.mountainwarehouse.com/mens/fleece/mens-fleece-onesies/yogi-onesie-p11712.aspx?cl=NAVY Or this one looks even better, http://www.mountainwarehouse.com/mens/fleece/mens-micro-fleece/camber-onesie-p9880.aspx?cl=BLACK Edited January 26, 2015 by welsh1
spinach
Ack ack I think some of his meds are to stop that. He does have to move about on a timely basis. Just bought the onesie for him ! Hell wear it ,it's just my big Sis I'll have to deal with. Cheers John.
victorismyhero
Its likely one of the meds he is on will be a "beta blocker" It is THAT that most likey will make him feel cold. wrap him up and then make him move......

bruno22rf
I find that a padded shirt works best-if you wear close layers and then get hot its a Faff to take them off-with a shirt you can easily slip it off-they make a brilliant blanket as well if you fancy a kip on the sofa-could not live without mine and I hang around the tumble dryer when it gets washed so I can get it back on. robbiep
Padded shirt, as Btruno has said. Also, for thermals, pure merino wool - NOT a merino wool/poly blend, which some companies use (and which goes to stink like Helys do). A (I think) New Zealand company do 'icebreaker' merino base layers, absolutely fantastic, but usually £50 or so. Lots of fake ones around though
spinach
Cheers for the pure Merino tip. Thanks everyone I guess if he doesn't like em I've got a new pair for next year! John.

Pushkin
If he is pretty winded after 15 to 20 minutes walking then he is doing too much too early. Scale back on the time/distance and reduce it to where he is managing better. After a massive heart attack it take time and patience to build up the body and what it can cope with. As he gets fitter himself he should begin to rebuild his own central heating from within as his heart becomes healthier again. Hope this helps. lexikia
Had an Heart attack 15 years ago aged 39, couldn't believe what a struggle it was to the local shop only 300 yards or so. Hopefully he will get stronger. Has he had any stents fitted? The beta blockers and Ace inhibitors, if he is prescribed these, will tire him until he gets used them.
