VOTE CONSERVATIVE

Never said anything about other parties.

I just don't understand the logic that voting for a party headed by the rich and ultra privileged will somehow improve lives for everyone else. You can start blaming the banks and the bankers and so on, but frankly if you follow the smiley road far enough you'll soon realise they are not just all voting for conservatives but there all ******* well public school-boy chums. How many conservatives do you think are effected by the lack of council houses? (I'll give you a clue, it's not as many that would be effected if someone put a forced property purchase on all the empty houses in London!)

Also socialism isn't a dirty word. You want a country without socialism go move to Afghanistan.

I work for the RMT and part time work is Lush. (Joking - joking, I work on British ships for the MoD - something the conservatives quiet like cutting too!)

Anyway, to quote a senior Tory MP speaking his Lib-dem counterpart :- "Listen, you take care of the workers, and we'll take care of the bosses"

You had me worried about the Lush bit for a sec

I agree that the defence cuts have gone too deep.

We are a very working class family, both parents came form pit villages , mum was a teacher, dad worked for Marley after the army. They were both staunch tories and i have followed that path as well. I often question it but it's not as black and white as "us and them" They sacrificed a lot to educate me privately and i will hopefully do the same for my daughter.

The issue with socialism is that in a perfect world, with no human nature, it might work. In reality it doesn't. Name me a socialist country that anyone would like to live in?. Russia, N Korea

At its worst, it gives full control to the state, takes away any individuality and demeans people. Why should the state be responsible for everything.

The answer is somewhere in the middle as always, with part state part private enterprise but we simply cannot afford a socialist mess like we had in the 70s.

You've only got to look at North Korea and South Korea to see the difference between socialism and capitalism.

**** socialism and **** socialists.

When I'm king of the world all socialists will be sent for 're-education' , to a gulag in the Cotswolds.

Ironically perhaps, here in the Cotswolds we'd do a good job of reprogramming socialists. As long as they work for it and only spend their own money. ;)

My oldies were just up the road in Barnsley ( mum) and the other way to Denaby Main ( dad)

Short arms and deep pockets or a Scotsman with the generosity squeezed out of him is how we are normally described.

Wot? Russia is capitalist through and through now, and North Korea is Dictatorship/Stalinist no matter what they call themselves. We live in a borderline socialist society whether you like it or not...

Example - As, I wake up this morning, according to my clock time set to GMT that's set by the National Physical Laboratory and powered from electricity that's supplied by the National grid and regulated by the Department of energy. I head down stairs in my house that doesn't collapse because it was built to regulations set by the Building regulation advisory committee and enforced by Mid Suffolk country council. I open my fridge (that doesn't explode or leak deadly gas thanks to Trading Standards / REACH ) and cook up some eggs that are safe from Salmonella thanks to the work of the Food standards agency and The Department of the environment and rural affairs. After finishing I get in my car that's been checked safe by the Ministry of Transport required tests and set off on roads that are regulated by the ......

Well, you get my condescending point.

Anyway, the point is it's all about a balance and the argument is how much balance we need to the left or the right. Now, obviously all the way over on both just don't plain work, and the argument about how much socialism vs capitalism we need is a long and boring one for another night. But I hate the argument that socialism = bad. If you count the countries that the government has the most direct influence on everyday aspects of a normal persons life without being a dictatorship/Stalinist (and even then, most dictatorships are poor and don't care what you do as long as you don't oppose them.) You'll realise I'm talking about most of the first world.

But it's a complex issue, I don't feel like arguing and I'm not going to convince you otherwise. I'm going to eat Malt-loaf and watch what ever is on the telly. (Hopefully Police interceptors)

vote ukip, and you will let labour in.

Sorry mossy but what a load of tosh  one of comedy dave's favourite quips, I saw the gurning monkey on telly this morning bad mouthing labour, typical tory codswallop telling us who we should and shouldn't vote for, have you ever considered that maybe there are some seriously disillusioned ex labour supporters that'll vote ukip as well? who knows, vote ukip and you might just see them make a difference.

No i don't. We are not a borderline socialist state. What you mention isn't state control, it's merely regulation. You are pretty much free to do what you want in this country, not the case in socialist havens. Try free speech in North Korea or China. I hate to point out that the Nazis had National Socialism.

In the 1970s, Nationalisation took us closer to socialism than ever, luckily, Maggie pulled us back.

Yes, Russia is now capitalist, i accept your point on that. China isn't although they have achieved what Russia failed to do, keep political control but open up the economy.

My last line said that the answer is somewhere in the middle

It's a very complicated issue i agree. Enjoy your Maltloaf.

I've just been and had a very large steak in Gaucho's. In fact I shared the steak platter with a mate. Four very large different cuts.

It's all too late to worry about the election. We are probably doomed but it was good while it lasted.

Must be nice to have a choice,

Labour will get in round here,

Why?

Our family has always voted Labour and Maggie closed the pits,

Our only hope here is UKIP, a very very very slim hope,

So a Tory I may be but I've voted UKIP

:shaun:

same round my neck of the woods Shaun, blighted with incompetent labour council after another but still the sheep vote they way their parents did. Truly the cycle of despair

Regulation by the state =/= State control. It's the same thing,

You see - thaisdn ;hbenfrsxc m, -. I can't be bothered.

The bookies are giving 7-1 for a conservative majority. I might have a punt  Ever the optimist, I reckon there are a lot of shy Tories out there who don't want to derail the recovery and will vote for steady as she goes in the privacy of the voting booth.
