neil w
So you can't answer your inane statement you made earlier. Oh well, don't bother trying now, I'm off to do some actual shooting instead of the keyboard type like you. I stand by my previous post. Not a warrior as you say!!. Happy shooting. CharlieT
I sincerely hope it does come back, but as all Mr Cameron has promised is a free vote, I won't be counting my chickens. Hunting with hounds is the most is the most fantastic sport there is, it's something everyone should do once before they die and it saddens me that some who shoot still fall for the anti garbage of "ripped to pieces" and all the rest of their emotive twaddle. A hound kills its quarry as quickly as a terrier kills a rat. But then the ban was nothing to do with cruelty, it was all about Toffs on horses. digger
my take on it is this - if it's not for you don't partake. If you still don't like it and are happy for a field sport to go under, then wonder why the antis are focusing more on shooting if you didn't stand by fellow country sportsmen I suggest knitting. If the ban is repealed or not divided we fall. I've never done this before but hope the mods lock and delete this thread, such in fighting is what the antis love. This is the best thing about Internet forums. I guess you imagine I'm sat here savaged by your comments and am trying to have a go. In fact I'm sat here with a smile on my face amused by the reactions you get when the people you are talking to can't see your face to convey what you're actually trying to say. I'm sure if we were having this chat over a pint in the pub you'd see my view and the fact I'm not being negative of country sports, just simply that i personally don't agree with fox hunting with dogs. Also note I've never said I would ban it just that I don't agree with it. grrclark
Quite possibly, but not many of them have been on driven shoots either. I'm quite indifferent to hunting with hounds personally, but I think where the hunting fraternity lost a lot of ground is that they couldn't decide whether they did it for 'sport' or pest control. Some, realising that chasing an animal across miles of open countryside to the point of exhaustion could be perceived by others as cruel, decided to attempt to justify what they did as pest control, to which the obvious counter solution of course was to simply shoot it. Some fox hunters then claimed that shooting wasn't selective, and that with hunting only the frail, elderly and sick foxes were culled. Fair enough, but the obvious counter argument to that is that if, as they claim, foxes are pests and fox control is carried out for that sole purpose, why on earth would anyone want to leave a super fit and healthy pest population roaming the countryside? Could it be they're better to chase? I shoot because I enjoy it, I don't have to justify it nor feel I should. The human race is where it is today because man is a hunter. There are many out there who feel we have moved on as a race, but in reality we're basically very very much the same; all that has changed is our ability to create the technology to create luxurious lifestyles where hunting isn't necessary and the technological capabilities to kill each other on a much grander scale, and all it will take to hurl us back into the middle ages is the lack of that technology for oh, about a month or so I would say. If you hunt because you enjoy the thrill of the chase then have the honesty to admit it. It's not my cup of tea but I can see appeal in the chase if not the kill. Campaign to have it made legal again. Stand up and be counted. Excellent post.

poontang
It's a free vote, so you might as well forget it... it's not coming back. I doubt a single MP from the opposition benches will vote for it, and there are a lot of Tories who don't support it either.

Well said, i remember watching a debate on it and an anti attacked Fredrick Forsyth and ended up saying " I don't like you or your type" 99% of it is class hatred, a bit like saying all game shooters are toffs. and what about that I'd like to see guns band at least davyo says shot them Which band is this? are they any good? Scully
By "one" I assume you mean someone who doesn't agree with your rose tinted version of the real world. No, by 'one' I meant a comment such as the 'one' you made. I'm not having a pop at anyone, all I'm saying is those who enjoy hunting foxes on horse back should have the honesty to say why they do it. If foxes are the vermin they are claimed to be why would it be better if we had a super fit and healthy pest species to breed? Rats are vermin also; do we want to cull only the old and sick ones and leave a species of healthy ones to breed? I fail to see how I'm viewing the world through rose tinted spectacles though. Saying you enjoy it wont make the antis hate you any more than they already do, nor any more than they already hate me for shooting living creatures because I enjoy it. When I'm asked to explain to someone why I enjoy doing what I do, I struggle to explain it in terms they would understand, possibly because I don't understand it myself, and invariably simply admit that I love it. I can't explain why I love it anymore than I can explain why I love painting, I simply do, that's all there is to it. Have more honesty than those who oppose you. Charlie T has it summed up perfectly; the hunting ban had nothing to do with cruelty but everything to do with class. The politics of envy and a misperceived sense of entitlement, typically served up with a hefty dose of wilful ignorance and arrogance. Yep, summed it up perfectly. grrclark
Game shooters as you say, are not Toffs. But the snobs with hounds and horses are. I know a lord with a house as big as a small country that maintains his own 3000 acres for private shooting with his mates who would turn white at the thought of getting on a cuddy and I know a couple of folk who have barely two ha'pennies to rub together that sacrifice everything to ride their horse, including in the hunt. JDog
Threads on fox hunting never fail to bring out of the woodwork the more ignorant and prejudiced amongst PW members. Do they imagine that fox hunting people go around saying that fishing is cruel, and what about those ferreters catching those bunnies? And for good measure do they pass adverse judgement on deer stalkers or game shooters? I think not. Also trotted out with boring regularity are the emotive phrases like 'ripping the fox to pieces'. Have the ignoramuses ever been at a kill? I once told off a young man on a pheasant shoot for throwing a brace of birds into the game cart. He will not easily forget the lecture I gave him about respecting the quarry.
norfolk dumpling
Interesting how even within our ranks, and we are all part of the same 'countrysports' world the antis hate en mass, we have deep divisions. I loved hunting mink but this attracted horrible demonstrations especially as the Act got closer. I can't see this getting approval but then I didn't see Tories getting back in with a majority so let's be optimistic and try to support otherwise it could be us next. I really feel for the Scots now with that nasty little red head getting so much support - she wants all guns outlawed - so direct your energies to the cause of getting her out.
