fenboy
Its fair to say my spring / early summer has been pretty dire on the pigeon front , I am at last starting to see a few but decent situations are few and far between. I found a few on peas yesterday and thought that it may be worth ago but with thunderstorms last night and more forecast for this afternoon and into the evening I did not fancy a long walk only to be rained off . Yesterday when out in the garden working on my new dog kennel I noticed the odd pigeon dropping into some sugar beet , there was also a bit of a flight line where they were coming out of the village and travelling over my farm to feed on some peas further up the road , I cannot shoot these peas but the pigeon often stop off in the sitty tree which sits on the edge of the beet field . So I thought I would give it a go , I got down the field and was set up for 2pm , starting with 15 decoys and the magnet . Things got off to a fine start shooting 4 in the first 5 mins I was there and 13 in the first half hour or so , I could not shoot to my right without dropping birds in some standing wheat so had set my hide so I could not see anything coming on my right hand side until they were out in front of me , it made for some great snap shooting with birds suddenly diving into the decoys . They decoyed great today and t was nice to see birds fully committed with their wings folded back , though I did not shoot too bad I did miss a few chances of lefts and rights today which I am putting down to being a little rusty ! The score kept ticking over nicely with quiet spells and hectic ones , at one stage I shot three while talking to Muncher on the phone !. I ended a very enjoyable afternoon at 18.00 and picked up 66 , its great to have a decent bag at last !.
JDog
It is good to be out isn't it. You did well. What was in the pigeon's crops?
fenboy
It is good to be out isn't it. You did well. What was in the pigeon's crops? Not a great deal in most of them , some had some wheat / bits of peas / weeds etc.

marsh man
Well done fenboy , your bag will come under the heading Advanced Decoying , meaning you got a good bag out of your knowledge on pigeon shooting and knowing your land you shoot on ..... Good result. We had your weather yesterday morning with thunderstorms and heavy showers till mid afternoon , today the forecast is a good day so hopefully I will do a bit of good on the Peas later on today . marsh man
Fenboy's fieldcraft duly noted by this 'Junior shooter'. We never stop learning Mr JDog , so we can all be classed as junior shooters , although some us are less junior than others .
pigeon controller
Fenboy's fieldcraft duly noted by this 'Junior shooter'. You will have to learn about these Lincolnshire Birds, as you've left the Yuppie pigeons of the Cotswolds and the Tame Pigeons of the South Midlands so some local Knowledge is essential .
