His own driving ain't that great either. As well as using his phone to record whilst driving, he also returns to lane 1 ( it ain't called a slow lane) on approaching an on slip with traffic about to join the carriageway. He should have remained in lane 2 until past the onslip.

That was my thinking, especially when he was approaching the slip road.

Not connected, no, the Daily Wail put it up.

Article here http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3133300/Motorist-person-convicted-hogging-middle-lane-g-etting-fined-1-000-driving-60mph-inside-lane-free.html

One of my pet hates on the motorway. Although I did get a certain amount of pleasure going from the inside lane all the way to the outside lane and then back again if it actually caused the hogger to move into the inside lane.

I don't mind middle lane hoggers, the ones that really bug me are the ones that keep changing lanes. I support the American approach where lane changing is illegal.

If this system were to be adopted then undertaking would need to become legal so as to maintain capacity

When I undertake to get round one of these lot it's invariably a foreign driver - even if you try and get a look in their eyes to deliver the 'shaking head tut tut' they just don't see you. There should be more police on the road to pull them over, test their eye sight and breath and less cameras.

39TDS - you're right. This was explained to me by my daughter who was taught 'to drive according to traffic flow and road conditions' which included passing slower traffic in outside lanes. I think this is a misconception by us oldies who were taught to drive when there were only a couple of cars in sight. The outside lanes then were for faster traffic.

Lane changing isn't illegal in the US.

Rick

Its Traffic Regulation 22107 but they interpret it a lot more strongly than over here. If you move into another lane when there is another car already in it, even if its a good long way back, they will have you for it.

All of this slotting into gaps that goes on here is a definite no-no

Each state has its own laws and interpretations though

It depends on the circumstances ,if traffic is moving slow or at a standstill in fast lane, but caution should be taken. Also if a car is doing 70 in fast lane you can not undertake as you would be then speeding and undertaking leading to driving with out due care and attention.

Personally it's something I would try and avoid, one of my pet hates is for example you are travelling at 70 in the inside slow lane and approach a slip road and there is a car indicating to join the carriage way,you indicate to move over to leave that lane accessible ony for said car to join at 70 and end up driving along side you.

Why can't they just wait for you to pull back in,then indicate to overtake,if they want to drive at 80 or 90 the second they leave the slip road, then at least wait a few seconds.

It isn't illegal to undertake. Look it up if you don't believe me.

It isn't illegal but you are still laying yourself open to the possibility of due care and attention, dangerous/careless/reckless driving etc if its done agressively or some motorway cop doesn't like the way you did it for whatever reason.

I actually think its more dangerous to hang just along side and slightly to the rear in the blind spot. Especially when the dopey driver hasn't checked his/her mirrors for the past twenty miles and hasn't got a clue you are there. Get past them

There is no question some drivers hog the outside lane out of spite alone, they have no intention of actually overtaking or allowing anyone to overtake them. They know the law and they know they're holding people up but just can't help being sadacts. It's an obvious psychological problem to spot by the way they speed up just enough when a gap opens up that they should pull into but as soon as they've reached more cars on the left they slow down.

Big fines are Excellent news, meanwhile hand signals provide brief relief.;)
