hi all,

out for a hour last night on the pigeons over cover crops when a heard a man shouting at me from behind the edge row stop shooting its to late for shooting, I told him the farmer wants me to hit the pigeons as they are causing flat spots on barley crops and he told me the best time is late on, this man went on and on about getting the police so I told him I`ll pack up at 7 and get off the land.

so my question is do any body know what time its legal to shoot?

by the way hit 56 :)

What time was the bloke shouting at you to pack up ?

I will often shoot until or after 7pm in the summer, though as above common sense should prevail if there are houses nearby as to when you start or finish.

he came ranting about 6 and I started at the farmers request about 5, the two houses are around 300-400 metres away, where was his common sense walk up to a shooter without making his self know to me plus trespassing,

talked to me like dirt as well and I`m the bad one :/

If it happens agian tell him you are recording him on your phone and ask him politely to leave the land and inform him to call the police if he wishes.

i would have carried on till I was ready to stop, let him call the police if he wants. he will just be wasting their time.

might have sympathy with him if his house backed onto the field but as it does not just carry on

you have permission to shoot there, he has no permission to be there.

ive had it myself and had the police out to me as well and as long as you have permission to be there, there is no issue.

that's good to know, when it happened to me the farmer turned up and just said crack on boys, then the police turned up and checked our licences and proceeded to ask us all about decoying and how its done and how were we getting on, after hand shakes they left saying enjoy your day

played it Bob on for me,, last thing he needed is some bloke ranting at the farmers door... Now he knows how the farmer will react to dinks like this he can relax knowing he's not going to loose his perm, best off playing it cool like he did then sound it it with the farmer. If there's a next time then I think we all know they will be a differnt answer to the strangers abrupt approach ..

Law states here, no bird to be shot until ONE hour before sunrise, and NOT LATER than ONE hour after sunset.

So tell him to do one LOL

I often get harried for shooting at sunrise, but it's the best time to get the corvids. Townies in the countryside don't like it, but they should move back to their towns as they complain about everything

As far as shooting late , you will need to use your discretion , if your near houses start a bit earlier and finish a bit earlier .

I find if you start early , ( depending on how many pigeons you have got in your area ) they start to dry up around tea time , where as by starting later with the minimum of disturbance during the day you can shoot this time of the year around 7 to 7. 30pm , maybe a bit later up north or a little earlier down south .

thanks all, spoke to the farmer again today and he said he`s cutting the rape this week(wed, thur)and can I hit them again this weekend the fields are just across the road from them fields  maybe a little closer to his house :innocent: god knows what he`s going to say because I`m planning a long day if the birds play ball.

I've never had any one complain direct to me but more likely to start later and pack up early if near any houses....but if the pigeon traffic has not slowed down then I wouldn't want to stop. Also depends on how they ask. If they start by being demanding and threatening the police then I would be less willing to stop. But if you don't know the farmer's attitude then need to play it carefully as they maybe sensitive to neighbours ........ but the ones I know are not!! Had someone complaining to someone else in the village when I shot for nearly 12 hours near the village last year when I bagged my record of 186. Mentioned it to the farmer when I saw him again and he said "let them complain to me and i'll give what for"....so then I knew I had his full support and needn't worry. I have another permission who has elderly neighbours and has asked me not to shoot near their house.....so I stay well away.
