LondonLuke
Hi all Does anyone have the ability to look up an address from a number plate? Asking for a friend - welcome to PM...
Mike737
You can write to the DVLA if you have a valid reason to ask. Mike.
Dougy
I know the web site has changed recently, at one time you could put the reg in and get tbe make model, tax, insurance and mot from the site but not any more.
loriusgarrulus
Wouldn't have thought it would be that easy to get the address from the number plate unless you were an authorised organisation. That facility would be a car thieves steal to order dream facility.
butchdickason
Dougy, the info you mentioned is still available on the Gov website, tax my vehicle. Butch
robbiep
Anyone that did get you the access the database to get the address without good lawful authority would be committing a criminal offence under the data protection act. And you could be convicted of the offence of conspiracy to commit such offence, or inducing someone to do so. Possibly be good enough for the police to revoke tickets ? Regarding getting info on tax/mot status, that is available from here (you need make and reg no) You can get the make by going through the askmid site (though technically you are committing the DPA offence again by doing so) and putting in the reg no. Vince Green
Don't you know anyone who works for the council? Their employees have free access to that information
Gordon R
A number of employees have this facility, but would be committing an offence if the accessed the DVLA database without a valid reason. They would also get sacked.
Muddy Funker
I can't imagine that information would ever be handed out easily it would be a disaster. You have crossed words with another driver than a few days later you get a brick through your living room window or worse. Vince Green
A number of employees have this facility, but would be committing an offence if the accessed the DVLA database without a valid reason. They would also get sacked. Valid reason is a bit loose in its interpretation. Every insurance company has access to that database, so do parking companies, even the dodgy wheel clamping ones, I think the enhanced HPI check gives you the registered keeper as well. The DVLA are happy to sell that information to anyone willing to pay for it apparantly. Its only secret until money crosses the table. Just like the NHS want to sell on our medical records now Me? Cynical? Whatever gave you that idea? Edited August 26, 2015 by Vince Green
Gordon R
Vince - can't argue with that.
Cannon
Total car check will give you most details for free. You have to pay for additional info such as if the vehicle has been written off etc, but addresses of registered owners aren't as easily accessible.
