Nuclear warhead convoy

Started of with several armed response police vehicles, then 3 truck loads of whatever infantry escort it. 4 artics carrying the actual war heads, an American SWAT style armoured police truck, 3 OSG vans ( which from watching road wars means extra hard cops!). Then a large workshop lorry and spare parts trailer, a HGV recovery vehicle, 2 spare tractor units and to finish it all off a fire engine!

You forget this was all being overseen by 007 James Bond :whistling:

My Opinion is >> Surely no one should be here refering to any sort of movement at all. This thread should be removed.

Really? You think PŴ know something that the rest of the world doesn't? I would have thought the anti-nuclear nutters know all the movements.

I bet that was a fair sight.

Surprised there weren't a few Apache helicopters following it too....

They without a doubt would have been on standby if not. Along with the RAF most probably.

Considering its the biggest defensive deterrent we have and the most destructive weapon in our arsenal.

That's why I said, its not as if someone can rock up and pinch one, they'd be all over the place in minutes!

Fortune, I hope that was tongue in cheek, I only found out what it was by looking on Google, and "NUKEWATCH UK" coming up with the answers, these are a sad bunch of walts who want to act like nuclear safety crusaders, and tail the convoys and provide hotline numbers so you can report movements etc .

It was a fairly impressive sight, and according to the weirdos was probably going to RAF Marham. As for the terrorist threat, it only takes someone with a 44tonner to smash into one, and although obviously there wouldn't be an explosion the ensuing fire/damage would be enough to cause choas and panic

You say that, but probably only one of the lorries would be carrying anything interesting. Let's face it, they're pretty safe.

There are organisations that track nuclear movements, its hardly a secret, (or they wouldn't travel by road), the security ( and i know for a fact) is taken very seriously and should someone with nefarious intent attack a convoy such as this, it will be in vain. The planning and preparation is outrageous and the firepower better than most patrols in Afghanistan.

It really would be nothing but stupidity to attack such a convoy, you only see a very small element of those involved

All stuff like this is really protected like the containers that are carried on rail wagons. there might have been something on the lorries but it could be just a convoy of vehcles. could be that if there was someting on the move it could have been on a very bland trailer. there used to be a whole rake of anti nuke protestors that camped out for years to warn the world. Where are they all now?

They grew up and realised the world is a dangerous place, and to be safe in this country it meant eventually human life would need to be sacrificed. Love and happiness will simply not beat a nuclear weapon on the global conflict front.

The procedures are so robust even if something did happen the convoy would carry on rolling

Anyone stupid enough wouldn't last long I wouldn't think. Especially if they called in the Apache gunships for support.

In a layby near Harrogate bleating about Menwith Hill.

I lived and worked 15 mins away from Greenham in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They stank!

I once caught up with a nuclear convoy heading north on the A1 through north Yorkshire and followed a sensible distance behind it for a little while out of curiosity, it was absolutely brilliant as the police had cars stationed on every bridge crossing the road and once the convoy passed under they romped ahead to the next one, it was very slick.

After a few miles i got bored and decided to overtake and when passing the police were giving it the big hurry up sign so i gave it a bit of welly, they were not in the least interested that i was doing around a ton, they just kept waving to hurry up. I kept the hammer down for a few miles after and was still overtaken a few times by the rozzers moving on to the next bridge over the road.

My dad was a chief fire officer in Fife and on the very rare occassion that they moved nuclear weapons to either the naval armament depot just outside Rosyth or to RAF Leauchars that they would phone the local emergency services just before entering the region giving details that a hazardous shipment would be passing through in case of an incident that they had to respond to. As the convoy progressed they would update with precise details of timings, etc. All planned and executed brilliantly.
