spandit
Haven't owned a truck before but I want something for doing tip runs and picking stuff up from builders merchants etc. Going to look at a 2006 2.5 manual today. It's the lower power one and I'm wondering whether I'm going to regret not buying a higher power (3.0) or an automatic (I might be going over the odd field or so but my Jimny is manual and doesn't have a problem) Is the ride on long journeys really that bad? I'm 6'4" - will I fit? I know these are things that should be apparent on a test drive. It's this one: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201509126848096
southeastpete
Check the council website about using a truck for the tip. Mine says I have to apply for vouchers, which I can only get if the truck is the only vehicle in the household, and even then I am limited to 12 trips a year! bostonmick
I have used hilux trucks for over twenty years now and can honestly say that I can't fault them.I found the first model little uncomfortable after a long run but the later ones are great.I have a invincible 3.0 auto now I have had it for just over six years I have towed large trailers with a few ton on and use it across fields it has never failed an mot and has never let me down.I also have a ranger which does a lot less work and is newer but is currently in the garage having a engine rebuild. Scully
They are the only 4x4 vehicle I would swap my Landy for; drove one for Cumbria Construction some years ago. Impressive.
spandit
Well. I drove it and it didn't have the acceleration of my Subaru Forester (not surprising) but was quieter at 70mph once it got there. Haven't made up my mind yet but will have a look at some others. Driving position seemed quite comfortable although on a short test drive it's difficult to really tell how it would be long term
Harnser
Depends what you are looking for ,the navara and the l200 will out accelerate and out pull the Toyota pick up . Harnser

countryman
Had the 2.5 engine very good fuel economy but a bit slow pulling away.
spandit
I'm unlikely to be doing much heavy towing in it but wonder if I should get the more powerful inter cooled 2.
spandit
Tried getting a quote from my existing insurance company but because it seems to be classified as a van, it doesn't work. To cancel my existing policy will cost £53 but to start a new one without using my NCD is expensive too...
silver pigeon69
Shop around for insurance,on my Hilux, Toyota insurance wouldnt transfer the ncb from my van because the Hilux was NOT classed as commercial. LOL. but Galdiator would. The tip at bexhill will let a Hilux go in any day and will let one with a 6ft trailor in tues and wednesdays. (arnt the Hilux's 2.2 or 3ltr?) Edit: They will even open the height restriction bar, if you have something high on the roof rack!! spandit
Well, I've put a deposit down on a Hilux... hoping to pick it up next week
spandit
That's worth a try, thanks. They certainly didn't "Quote Me Happy" earlier today For no apparent reason, the one I've bought is listed as a car not a van, which is great as it means I can just edit my insurance. It's gone up by £3.95 - I think I can cope with that!

WinchesterDave
looks ace! enjoy it! I always thought pick ups were classed as commercial by Insurers? when I've been on comparison websites, out of interest and put in a pick up it always changes it to commercial? Didn't specifically want a hard top but glad it's got one. I presume they're easy to unbolt? Going to fit a reversing camera as I'm not that great at parking as it is. Then you have to unplug the wireing loom, if it has a brake light under the spoiler/interior light or rear window de-mister. Edit: hard tops are worth a small fortune, the ASX is £1600 new! and they sell on ebay for £400+ all day long! Have you checked its still on your drive? Yes, i did have to check! especially as he's only up the road from me! Edited September 21, 2015 by silver pigeon69
