figgy
Beretta Ultralight will be the lightest. Or a Side by Side.
EMT
I have just bought the Mrs a 20b silver pigeon and used it recently on a game day and what a difference! I've also got a 682 gold e and I have used it for everything in the past but I don't think I will ever use it for anything other than clays now. The 20b was a joy to hold whilst waiting for the drive to start and you hardly knew you were carrying it when in the slip. I even took the 20b to shoot at high lodge rather than the 12b because I knew it would be an all day event. Maybe I am just becoming a weedling as I am getting older, who knows. besty57
Another vote for the 20g.i use one most of the time on our shoot,I used to shoot my browning 525 but find the 20 g much better now.

Alycidon
I use a 687 lightweight game in 12g, but a 20 will be fine providing you are a half decent shot. A

Blackpowder
Nice little side by side from a good provincial gunmaker, plenty choice out there. Blackpowder
Bungle The Bear
Loads of nice SxS out there - stick a suitable cartridge through it and you will be a happy chappy. Far nicer to handle too - but I am biased towards any SxS !!
coldweld
20g or 28g on a small action
Big Al
Loads of nice SxS out there - stick a suitable cartridge through it and you will be a happy chappy. Far nicer to handle too - but I am biased towards any SxS !!I'll agree with that. I am having a bit of a sxs revival at the moment. Plus points: They are light and easy to carry. They are available widely. A 12g sxs weighs similar to a 20g ou and the cartridge selection is wider and cheaper for 12g. They look traditionally smart. They are out of fashion (so you get more gun for your money) They are easier to reload in a hide than an ou. This is up for debate but I find the double trigger an advantage as I can easily select the choked barrel for longer birds. Negatives Put too heavy a cartridge in and you'll feel the recoil more. They are out of fashion. People may sneer. A double trigger may take a bit of getting used to. Edited December 31, 2015 by Big Al
escortmagnum999
O/u 20 bore, had my Lincoln 3 years now and shot nearly everything on the quarry list apart from geese, Iv never looked back and doubt il buy another 12 bore unless I get into clays in a big way, game shells are more or less the same price these days so cost shouldn't bother you, best of luck!! bostonmick
Why bother with twenty bores. Cartridge price higher.recoil on heavier loads.a 687 game is around a pound lighter than your gold e.
ChrisAsh
The best thing is to go to a small clay shoot (straw bale type) and ask to use a few peoples gun, you will soon find one that's nice and also get to try some gun makes you would not normally consider
