pigeon controller
Friday saw us heading out to a field that we had seen the week before with a few birds down on the rape but we did not know the farmer to ask . During the week we had found out his name and popped to the farm to seek permission which was granted, sorted. We had been driving around for a couple of hours while the rain blew its self out and checked the field . It had a very tight flock of about eighty birds down but they kept lifting off and dropping down again. So being lazy by nature we drove up the edge of the field and set the hide up decoys out . Then it disaster, while I was reversing down the track the disco decided to go for an early bath in the water filled ditch . I just slid down in slow motion and was at the point of rolling when I had to dive for the passengers side and it came to rest. I tried to drive out but the ground was so wet even MUD TERRAINS would not work. So a humble phone call to the closest farmer and a JCB we manged to get back on the path. The farmer pointed out that the ditch was full and the rain water had been running off the field across the track and the weight of the Disco had just slid into the ditch. It was now 13.00 and we had not fired a shot and the birds had been flying over the field while we were recovering. so we settled down to try and shoot some birds . We had a magnet in the pattern and the approaching birds just flared at approx sixty yards so we took it down and they came in more confidently. We finished shooting at 15.45 and collected up and we had shot sixty birds. We left the Disco and carried the gear down to it , DB decide to walk back to the gate and left me to reverse back down to the road?? Saturday saw us looking again but it had gone very mild overnight and we had to contend with fog . Now in my opinion the worst weather for pigeon shooting is fog, we entually found a good number of birds down contacted the farmer and set up. We had approx one hours shooting , shot twenty four birds and it went dead . We packed up and went to another farm and set up again and had twentytwo birds and dead again so packed up and moved to another field which is on the fligtline to the roost in the area and set up again and finished with twenty eight . So the total for the day was seventyfour pigeons and a lot of physical pain.

Danger-Mouse
Look on the brightside . . . a ditched disco is better than a disco inferno. Nice shooting as always.
shoot and be safe
That made me giggle surprised you didn't start shooting straight away and sort the recovery out later Any sign of a "naughty" pheasant to shoot before your first pigeon was attempted Not bad numbers for the time you had All the best, SABS Edited January 23, 2016 by shoot and be safe

Nice shooting as always. very good lol it didn,t stop you bagging 60 birds and all credit for setting up 3 times it can get very tedious having to lug your gear back and forth across fields putting the hide up, taking it down again bringing decoys in then setting them out again but you get the rewards if your prepared to do it

The wife was not impressed with your comments With respect to the display, I'm trying to get over my OCD. That made me giggle surprised you didn't start shooting straight away and sort the recovery out later Any sign of a "naughty" pheasant to shoot before your first pigeon was attempted Not bad numbers for the time you had All the best, SABS We thought about shooting but we were not sure of a suitable method of recovery so opted for recover then shoot.
