Longbower
You are going out into the wilderness (Forest /Outback) for a year , you have shelter, water etc no electric , but will need to survive on what you can scavenge or shoot for your food . You are allowed an air rifle . What would be your choice? And why ? Edited January 24, 2016 by Longbower
Hamster
HW80, accurate, sturdy, you might just get away with stripping it with just a screw driver and will be heavy enough to club the odd sheep to death without loosing zero. Lol Good points but I was thinking lighter. A springer though!
robbiep
I'd go for an HW77K. I used to have one, and when I was given it it had spent from 1989 to 2008 sitting in a barn with no care at all. All of the bluing was rusted, but when tested it still put out 11-11.2 ft/lbs consistently, and would put pellet on pellet at 25-30 yards
Hamster
Lol Good points but I was thinking lighter. A springer though! The HW95 may well be a contender but although I own one having never stripped it I don't know whether it would need a spring compressor or be easier than the 80, the point about clubbing is only partially said in jest. winnie&bezza
In the case of a bear or wolf attack it's got to be able to take it down.
pat g
In the case of a bear or wolf attack it's got to be able to take it down. Argh well in that case it would have to be a 30/30 underlever and an HW80 or 77k ATB, Pat
chrisjpainter
HW80, 95k or 97KT. any of those would do very nicely or a bsa lightning. any passing reindeer would then die laughing at the thing.
winnie&bezza
Surely a hw80 running at 18ft/lb would at least slow the bear down.
Hendrix's rifle
Surely a hw80 running at 18ft/lb would at least slow the bear down. Yeah it would fall on its back....... And laugh at you :L
Albert 888
He never said you had any pellets. I would have a bow, spear or catapult.

evo
none I would take a decent snare and knife might not last long but I could have a go of fighting a big bear off

Longbower
"Allowed an air rifle ". Sort of narrows it down to 'an air rifle'!

Underdog
Funny how this has swung to fighting off bears! Maybe due to a misconceived perception of security on this island. In fact it is commonly accepted that most stores only have a few days worth of goods and the slightest wiff of trouble and people panic buy so should a disaster happen and you have an air rifle of any type it will be useful. Granted, for many next doors cat would go missing and feral pigeon broth might mean all the difference betwixt life or death but many would not be able to cook it and if they did thugs would steal it from you, maybe even kill you for! So my recommendation is to stop worrying about bears and think about how lazy we have all become!

Mentalmac
I'd have a .22 springer, as they have SO MUCH more power than a .177... Which I'll need to be able to have knock down power on the Hares at 704 yards!

12gauge82
704! And I though I was doing OK with my gat at 200. I would use .177 because I would shoot polar bears at 1000 metres and there'd be less drop with that.
