New a guy on Facebook who was into it..

Him and his mates all posing with AR15s in full tactical gear..pistols, balaclavas... They looked like they were about to burst into the Iranian embassy

I deleted him...

I find it a bit odd to, however if its not harming anyone then good luck to them, as for deleting people on facebook I've been on the other side of that for being the nasty man who murders beautiful pigeons, I say live and let live.

Funny reading that post about legality, I wonder what would happen if you loaded metal BB's into a fully auto one ? Just how powerful are they ?

A distant family member loved giving it the big one about joining the army etc , got in and dropped out within a few weeks ... Hasn't stopped getting all geared up in the replica air soft gear and posting pics all over Facebook etc.

Can see it being a bit of fun for some, and an odd obsession for others!

I have a friend who's into it - by the looks of his Facebook pictures he posts, he wears camo gear and has a half decent gun with handgun sidearm...

It does look quite fun judging by the videos on youtube, but I'd rather stick to paintball - prefer the fact that once you have got someone it hurts a little and is visible.

I found I was pretty good at paintball, when I first had the chance to fire in the setting, I shot a couple of rounds and watched the drop from my point of aim, and then adjusted - soon after I was knocking people down pretty good from a distance. I often let all the rambo wannabes run in first also, some of them are pure canon fodder.

The key is to each round or so go to the marshals and insist they top up the air on your gun saying the powers dropping off. That way it stays fairly consistent.

I fully confess that I have been two or three times about 8-10 years ago with few mates when they were back from Germany and we just did it for a laugh at the time, just the same as paint ball and just left like this it was fine.

We would go once or twice a year and went maybe 4-5 times with a good few beers after and a night out on the lash.

But we stopped going when the regular attenders became so serious with it and werent being sporting with it. Yes they spend hundreds on there rifle etc and I dont doubt some have collections well into the thousands of pounds worth of kit. I just couldnt get my head around the mentality of alot of them who really thought they were SF etc which totally spoiled it and i found it disrespectfull towards the units etc of those they were impersonating.

It does annoy me to see them at the shooting show as I dont think we should be seen in any similar light to people who are "wanna be`s" and dress up in millitary type uniforms and point weapons at each other.

Maybe I would feel different if they wore bright coloured clothing like paintballers do at the "speed games" and if they dropped the wanna be attitude.

Don't think I've got the time or the energy to run about dressed in cammo shooting at people with BB guns, but where I do think they are indispensable is in the removal of spiders from the house and garden.

Bought a co2 powered jericho 941, because it was the only one left in stock without "realistic blowback action", and whilst it's too powerful for skirmish, it's great for blowing up false widows and huge garden spiders, accurate enough for minute of spider at about 10 yards, and makes a real mess of them.

Way better than trying to get close enough to use the blowtorch. No damage to property, or dog or us, and fewer arachnids to wander around my place

Check out "bug o salt" gun they look like great fun and don't do any damage to your house.

It's role play, and I imagine quite exciting.

No different to any other hobby, I'm not sure what the doubters expect people to wear, and carry whilst playing war games.

There seems to be an air of arrogance because we have 'real' guns.

What would I expect them to wear? Well stuff like the paintballers wear in there speed shoot things amost motorX look.

Anything that looks like wanna be millitary I suspect would attract anti gun folk labeling all as nutters etc. So myself I want to be distanced as much from them as possible in preference to be seen as a resposible weapons user carrying out pest control or pursuing a legal field sport in a sporting mannor.

And you'd expect other war gamers, like reenactment folk to also dress in motocross gear? It'd certainly be a bit nebulous.

I don't get your analogy, they don't own firearms, nor is it pest control or a field sport. It's a military game, I don't see the harm, same I see no harm with school kids in camo going to CCF days at school.

They're role playing! It's totally harmless, perfectly legal and nothing is killed, yet you want to distance yourself from them for fear of being branded a 'nutter' by antis!? Have you stopped to consider they may want to distance themselves from those who own real firearms and kill living creatures for their own entertainment?

You aren't seen as a 'responsible weapons user' by the those 'anti gun folk' you fear will label you; you're seen as a potential psychopath who murders innocent animals.

Bill Harriman is also a re-enactor. along with a high ranking Chief Officer of Police, whose name escapes me at the moment. They both dress up in contemporary uniform and run around shooting flint and percussion locks.

I think your posts are a bit rich coming from someone whose avatar features a round of ammo and calls himself the Salop Sniper!

Nowt wrong with a bit of dads army.

The reinactment brigade do exactly that reinact historical battles from different periods of history.

The air soft boys are playing modern warfare with BB guns wearing whatever bits of camo they feel like.

Not quite the same as historical reinactment.

Your right it's not illegal it's just grown men playing games.

Re-enactment still consists of grown men ( and women ) running around playing soldiers; from medieval times to Vietnam and beyond. They may have an in-depth interest in the period, but they're still role playing, and not always in front of an audience.

A lady who comes to my art class has a son in Germany who has a half suit of armour and at weekends he and many others get on their horses and bash each other around the bonce and other parts of the anatomy with all manner of weaponry, but that's ok because 'wannabes' only carry guns. :hmm:

I know a bloke at work who does it. He's a typical weirdo. He reckons his rifle and scope cost over a grand!! He got talking to me one day before he knew i was into shooting. "I've got a remmi 700 and leupold scope." He told me it was 6mm, so im thinking .243 or 6mm PPC! He tried to tell me the BB's are supersonic and it reaches out to 300 yards!! It took me some time to explain it's not a real rifle!! I'm sure he thinks he's in the SAS.

Perhaps he is in the S.tupid A.re S.ouls brigade! :whistling:

Knew a person at uni who was really into it. They had a team all fully kitted out, throat mics and all! Would practice manoeuvres on weekends when not playing.

Not something I'd put all my money into, but would certainly have a go. Funny how people judge others for doing something they enjoy and is some harmless fun. Got to be a 100% better running around a wood than doing the same thing on a console cooped up in a room!

Very close to my local clay ground there is a big air soft setup. It is called The Fort Airsoft should anybody wish to google. I often think that the sound of the guns at the clays must add an extra dynamic for the Airsoft players.

It is an impressive setup with indoor and outdoor areas setup and the folks who play really immerse theirselves into it.

There is also a shop not too far away that are specialists in Airsoft, whenever I have passed it has been full, I bet many gun shop owners wish they had the same level of trade.

Not my thing, but I understand the appeal for those that enjoy it.

I guess like any other activity or sport you will get those that are a bit OTT, but I think most just enjoy the escapism and the thrill of doing something they enjoy.
