The Turkish Government are getting in on the act;

They will take back some refugees and stop others in return for payments and membership of the EU.

It really is time for us to get out of this awful white elephant.

If Turkey join the EU they will flog passports and citizenship to every chancer from Africa and Asia who will then have the right to settle anywhere in Europe they want.

It will be goodbye to the civilisation our forefathers fought and died for over the last two centuries.

Little chance of them getting EU membership for the foreseeable future but it appears they may have secured funding of €3bn to help them with the refugee crisis - wow and I bet they will do nothing to stop boats heading for Greece! I gather they are also asking for visa-type ease of movement for their citizens on the basis refugees get this as soon as they hit the shores of Europe. A little bit of blackmail going on here??

I'm pretty sure the EU have offered an EXTRA 3bn on top of the money offered in November last year, so a total of 6bn Euro's.

It's the tip of the iceberg.

The Turks seem to be blackmailing EU and doubtless pushing migrants towards Greece. I heard tonight Turks have cut off numbers easily and did this recently but to get their way are actively (supplying rubber boats and not policing shoreline) encouraging the huge numbers being seen this year. Is this why No10 have now sent 3 navy vessels to the Med????

I was in Turkey the Christmas before last and what's happening to that country now is a tragedy.

Over the past few years they have spent their way out of recession by investing in infrastructure. The coast road is relaid to take tourist coaches all along the Aegean. New roads link all the major towns as do brand new railways. Journeys that used to take five hours now take three hours.

This country, after nearly 50 years, still can't get the A14 built right.

Now, thanks to America, with help from us, destabilising the middle East to control the petro-dollar and bring about regime change, all that they've achieved will be going to hell in a hand-cart.

We reap what we sow.

Utterly shameful

The real enemy is a lot closer to you than you think. Cesspit or not  (have any of you actually been to Turkey ?) they didn't create this problem but are bearing the brunt of it, the least they can expect is money which should really come from the US but never mind.

The question of their EU membership is entirely different but in their shoes you too would do everything to maximise your benefits.

That is a good point. I've often wondered where all those people get their life jackets from? Its not like there would be many scuba and yachting outlets in Syria and Afghanistan is there?

And it's surprising that they mostly claim to already have family in Britain.

Some businesses think it is a good idea as they can more easily tap into the cheap Turkish labour market. They are already investing in Turkish plants and factories, but EU membership would make things easier for them. You would be able to buy quality Turkish guns like Hatstands for even less than now.

But a major stumbling block to Turkish membership is the relations with Cyprus. I can't see Cyprus and by default Greece accepting Turkey's application. Germany wouldn't be too keen either as there are already many Turks in de Farterland and that would attract more of their relatives to settle there.
