I saw the paper in the shop yesterday, a full front page spread. Apart from the poor dog, the ****(s) who did this have tarred us too. To me crossbows for sale are the same as baseball bats for sale - 99% of them are bought for the wrong reason, or by dangerous people.

Is there any need for crossbows to remain legal? Could the shooting / fieldsports world call for a ban?

sick. should have the crossbow used to pin themselves to a wall then see how they like being shot with one. As for being sold, I dont see the point either some of the them are bloody lethal espically should they be aimed at the human chest.

That person/persons who did that need some of the same, but don't go down the road of banning bows.

I can't see the point myself of having one but a lot of people have that view on rifles, shotguns and air guns.

even if it was left to the local police to control the sale of crossbows with permits so they would know who has one,to me i think it is crazy that i need a licence for a airrifle and have to wait a good few weeks to get one,and people can walk in to a shop and buy a crossbow no probs its not rite.

fair enough but they are a lot more deadly than air rifles and can be brought easily. Is there any legislation covering crossbows and their drawstring tension etc i.e. is there a point where it becomes illegal or on a FAC?

Disgusting

they want stringing up

Crossbows are pointless in my view, 99% of the people that want to own them are exectly the type of people who shouldnt be allowed anywhere near them

The above comments could be made concerning your shotguns and rifles aswell:look:

As I am someone that hunts with longbows, recurve bows, compound bows and cross bows I find the above comments very offensive. ;) I dont remember being a dangerous person, or a thug. I also dont think that the people that I hunt with, or others that I know fall into that catagory.

Does this mean we should call for a ban on all guns because criminals are dangerous and have no intention of using them correctly? Irresponsible use of a weapon is irresponsible use of a weapon. It is not the tool which causes the destruction it is the user. Think back to handguns

Please do not lump those of us that are responsible owners and users of bows, and crossbows into a pool with the scum that used one to shoot the poor dog above

NTTF

Wow, I bet the people who did that are well cool... Why on earth would anybody do that? Oh, and I happen to have a crossbow which I've owned and used for years and I guess I fall into the 1% catagorey who use them correctly...

Nasty stuff.

I am no fan of cross bows and recognise that the UK is not well suited to bow hunting (full stop). However, the knee jerk reaction to "ban" is not the right one - how many animals are killed or maimed with knives, catapolts, airguns etc. It's down to the individual scum bag.

How many people get glassed in pubs? Are we going to ban pint glasses and ashtrays?

Yes but crossbows seem to be so deadly in comparision to air rifles and readily avaliable without licencing. Also as you can't hunt with crossbows is there a use, I am not knowledgable of the subject but wonder do people target shoot using normal crosswbows? I imagine it would be quite easy to get them to accurately hit an archey target, espically when lots feature scopes.
