I see the leader of the leave Britexit Boris Johnson was hedging his bets to see which way the wind was blowing before making up his mind who's side he was on.

Boris Johnson has confessed to having written an alternative pro-EU column for The Daily Telegraph at the same time as penning his piece backing ‘Brexit’.

The Leave campaign’s most prominent cheerleader electrified the early stages of the EU referendum campaign when he announced he would oppose the Government line and support ‘Out’.

Many observers noted how his pro-Brexit stance contrasted with his previous comments, including telling fellow Tories he was “no Outer”. They also noted that backing Leave would bode well for a future leadership bid.

On Newsnight last night, on the eve of polling day, Johnson confirmed a rumour that was swirled around Westminster that underlined his conflict.

“I’ll tell you what the second article said. What it said was that, actually, irrespective of my objectives to the way the EU was going, in order to support my party and the Prime Minister it would be better to stay in. In the end that wasn’t a good enough reason.”

Reporter Michael Cockerell suggested that the ‘In’ column was a more convincing argument according to a source that had read it - something Johnson brushed off.

Even before Johnson’s announcement at an impromptu press conference earlier this year, some made clear they thought he was not a true believer - including Tory MP Nicholas Soames, the grandson of Winston Churchill.

And to think so many people were fooled by him. All he has used the EU vote for is to position himself to become the next Tory Prime Minister. Nobody can trust him now.

Yes I have a vested interest in staying in , I do not want this country to go down the pan which it will do if we leave the EU and I certantly do not want the next PM who puts himself before the country. Its clear Boris is interested in only one thing... Boris.

I really wouldn't worry about it. If it's true, and we vote in, then he's shot himself in the foot. If it's true and we vote out, then he's shot himself in the foot. He's a politician; to claim one is more honest than another when their career is on the line is ludicrous.

Cameron is on record as saying to leave the EU wouldn't do the UK too much damage, yet during the referendum he had leaving responsible for the possibility of WWIII, a recession and everything in between. There are very few politicians in it for the sake of the country.

So Boris looked into both sides before making up his mind which is better ?

GOOD! SO DID I. Anyone who out rightly refused to even consider the pro's and con's of the opposing sides argument is narrow minded and a fool.

Making an informed decision means looking at both sides and despite positives and negatives for both, picking the side you think is better over all.

It is old news that Boris had two articles written, he was very clear and candid that it took him much soul searching to decide which way to go.

The deciding factor was the return of DC effectively empty handed from his EU charm offensive and at that point BoJo made his choice. Having made his choice he committed himself fully.

I respect the man for his candour in stating that it was a difficult choice and I respect him for having the courage of his convictions having made it.

BoJo didn't need this referendum to make his case, he has the charisma of a political giant in comparison to anybody else who would have challenged him, he was a two term Conservative mayor in a city that is majority Labour, he has genuine cross party appeal.

We will be able to choose which people we let in, which is better than current system.

£350m contribution he said was a mistake because it didn't include the rebate. Either way, we pay £55m a day and get £21m back, its better we keep all £55m and choose how we want to spend it.

The pound will recover once things settle, if you thought we would leave and the pound wouldn't drop in short term your a fool.

FTSE100 bounced back to higher than it started on Monday.

All the big businesses and other countries already stating their intentions to stay in UK and setup trade deals.

Scotland couldn't make sums work when it was $120 a barrel of oil, its now $50 a barrel. I hope they leave.

Exports are doing well.

Its sad that two days in and the remainiacs are saying we told you so. How quick do you think the changes happen? Its short term pain for long term gains.

Boris never says anything , just brushes aside questions with the standard answer " it will be alright" or no thing to worry about". Mind you he sits on the fence to see which way the wind is blowing.

Its clear that having won Boris and the leave side has no idea what to do next. They should have had a plan already worked out , not wait until afterwards and then hold a meeting to decide. Perhaps its time to send him to the tower is true British tradition for treason for destroying the future of the country..

Quote "We will be able to choose which people we let in, which is better than current system."

Not according to the leave side last night on Newsnight

Once things have been decided and the dust has settled there will be a proper points system. How can anyone comment on it yet, we haven't even decided who the new PM is let alone start discussing with europe on the how the market will work.

Hanna said the same things he said last night way back during the campaign. It will be better controlled and the tap won't turn off over night.

It's not up to the Brexit side to do anything, it's up to the elected government to do the will of the people!

Yep, and that's why the government shouldn't have taken sides on this once they had called a referendum. They should have prepared for both eventualities. I suspect they did but because they took a side, they are still trying to make the Brexit side look bad.
