iano
As cheap but solid cartridges, does anyone here use either of these?
Danger-Mouse
I`ve shot the odd box of 28gm English Sporters. I found them a bit punchey iirc but I think at the time I was more used to shooting 21gm cartridges.
aga man
I have used plenty of both in the past. Both good cartridges for the money, i found the English sporters a bit punchy on recoil and they give me head ache after 100 or so.
NorfolkAYA
Kent velocity mmxvi are a good cart and at £140 1000 you can't complain 👍...Good on pigeons too 👍
iano
Thanks guys - both are 28gm I think? Being new to all of this, if I was to go after small game (rabbits, crow, pigeons), what is the minimum cartridge load that you would recommend? Stonepark
I am using the Olympic Blues at present as couldn't get my normal ones, nice on the shoulder and killing well on Sporting Layouts I had slab of Sporter's earlier this year and they were fine as well with no problems. Only ones that I have had this year that I did not like was Hull Super fast which I found very punchy and causing me to head lift.
B25Modelman
I moved away from Eley Blues a few years ago because their cartridges went downhill. Many years ago I used their Olympic Trap and they were the bees knees. I have not used the current equivalent but understand its not a patch on the early version. You hit one well at 35 yards and it will not go anywhere.
zipdog
Could never get on with Eley Olympics but have found English sporters superb. Probably all in my head though.
Stonepark
Thanks - 7.5 and 5, what are they, shot size? Roughly for individual pellets, no 7.5 have enough energy for penetration to kill to 35yds, 7 40yds, 6 50 yds, 5 60yds on vermin and small game. chris1961
English supporter any day but punchy work great in semi auto
dazb1967
I have found English Sporter to be excellent through my semi, I have just bought 1000 pigeon select because I got a good deal on them and thought I would give them a try, I hope I don't regret it. The Heron
I have used Olympics in the past and are good value for the price but I now use Hull for both clay and game shooting always consistent quality unlike myself.

Being new to all of this, if I was to go after small game (rabbits, crow, pigeons), what is the minimum cartridge load that you would recommend? For those I would buy 28g or 30g in size 5 or 6, just get a box of whatever you local shop has on the shelf and see how you get on. If you are going to practice on clays then get 24g or 28g in size 7.5 for clays. Good luck and enjoy.
BrowningB525
Maxim imperial trap. £35 a slab. Or Kent 2016 £37.50 a slab
