Only tried a few loads today to zero it more than anything else. A couple show promise but like a numpty I loaded them all without checking OAL. This was to be checked when I picked it up today, and before I actually fired any rounds through it.

Also can't find the cable for my chrono, with the heat from the sun and the heat from my frustration I must have been near boiling point. ???

It's nice to shoot, you can actually see the little holes appear on the paper, best group yet is around 3/8 so room for improvement.

Oh and some numpty was telling me what to do while I was shooting.

He thought it was a HMR because I had an empty ammo box next to me with a load of patches in soaked in Hopps.

Looking good mate, no doubt you will have shooting sweet in no time.

You just know it'll be in his bed tonight between doggy and his wife

I've just done 7 that are a tad shorter. The one's I tried today were all jammed 😕. I'll do some for Sunday but need fruity to bring his chrono. I can't find the leas for mine. 😣

More chance him bringing the unicorn 243 lol

Between ... Doggy (?) and his wife lol

Where's he gonna sleep ?

She was asleep when I got in, as is most nights.

My little rem was in the tin box. Just had a couple of shots at a plastic bottle. Just for show.

No idea how much factory rounds are, never really thought about it.

£38 a box on the web against £21 for hornet for comparison . Ouch £2 a pop

Very nice. This in one calibre that will be added to my list one day. What make of rifle is it?

Tech Spec,

Sako S491 action

Sassen heavy varmint Stainless barrel. 1-9 twist

M17 thread and spigot.

Blueing by Midcounties blacking in Litchfield (absolutely amazing job £90)

Its on the heavy side but actually being able to watch the holes appear on paper makes me smile.

I have been shooting a 17 Remington since 1986. You are correct, a great little round and don't believe all the rubbish about burning barrels out after 100 rounds. Shoot sensibly, as with any rifle don't blatt away on the range until you can fry an egg and the barrel will serve you well for many years. My original on a CF Martini action and Douglas bull barrel was only allowed to go when groups started to expand to 1 MOA after 20yrs of constant use on foxes, crows, maggies, rabbits etc etc and back then, I had converted to single shot T/C Encore actions so purchased an SSK Stainless barrel from the USA, direct from the manufacturers. At the moment I am shooting some 18gr HPs given to me many moons ago, but they are running out and I will go back to the 25gr Hornady's shortly. Enjoy!!

Used to buy shells in the USA, but here at home I reload. The 17 Rem needs special care as a tiny amount can raise pressures and

extra care poring the powder, a fine ball powder works best from this point of view and I have a control feed bullet seater which saves a lot of fiddling. Worth every minute though. I'm using BLC2 at the moment only because I can't buy W760. Still does the job in spades.

Thanks Walker570,

Ive tried BLC2 but not too good with 20 vmax, but then It was a fluff up job with the seating depth. I will try some 25s weekend, best results were Varget and N140. It can be a pain feeding the bullets for seating,.

The primers were a tad flat but I put that down to jamming, like a plonker...

The controlled feed dies that come with the Hornady 17 kit helps with seating. I sit my bullets barely touching the lands, they don't seem to like a jump. Black the bullet up with a marker pen. Put a bullet in an empty case and feed it in gently. On taking it out you should see the marks left by the rifling. Ease the bullet in a very small amount until you get no mark. Set this case aside so that you can carefully put this in to your press and adjust accordingly and get the same seating every time. AS ALWAYS any signs of pressure ease back on the powder. I find driving the 17 Rem to max velocity does not always produce the best accuracy and the rabbits and crows don't seem to notice the difference between 4100fps and 3900fps.

That's a very nice looking rifle there. 17REM is a lovely calibre and very pleasing to always be able to watch the strike, particularly since it occurs so quickly.

I get superb groups on a good day with my 17REM LVSF running 24.4 gr Varget and 25 gr V-max. The Varget can clog up in the tiny funnel but I found trickling the powder in slowly allows it to drain into the case without issue.
