Danger-Mouse
This one is a little simpler. It was created by my mate back in the days when he was obssessed with chess. White to move and mate in 2.
Mr.C
White knight takes queen, checkmate Unless I'm missing something, I haven't played in a while.

Cannon
That would be stalemate Harry
Harry Callahan
That would be stalemate Harry It's a long time since I have played, but that's not stalemate? Black king physically can not move in any direction whilst the white can freely. Agree it's not actually check mate but white wins IMO. Cannon
White cannot win if it puts the black king in a position where it cannot move other than into check, if it isn't currently in check. Black would have to be in check first. There also isn't a white queen on the board (yellow bear).

kevin55
D7-C8 check If the black king takes the bishop, then A1-A8 checkmate If the black queen takes the bishop, then A1-A7 checkmate I think
Danger-Mouse
I don't have the time right now to go through and illustrate every post but I can tell you no one has the correct solution so far.
Harry Callahan
D7-C8 check If the black king takes the bishop, then A1-A8 checkmate If the black queen takes the bishop, then A1-A7 checkmate I think If the king takes the bishop, your move a1 to a8 doesn't give you check mate. The other scenario looks good though
Danger-Mouse
If the king takes the bishop, your move a1 to a8 doesn't give you check mate. The other scenario looks good though Doesn't work. The black king can simply retreat to its original square b7
Harry Callahan
Doesn't work. The black king can simply retreat to its original square b7 That's what I said! But his other scenario where the queen takes the bishop does work and I think does give check mate.
Danger-Mouse
That's what I said! But his other scenario where the queen takes the bishop does work and I think does give check mate. It would. However the queen isn't forced to take the bishop and as black has an alternative move it is not a correct solution.
kyska
I've been reading these posts, they blow my mind, I can't head or tail of what is being suggested, my mind just doesn't work this way. And I'm fairly clever in Nottinghamshire with an IQ of 16. I remember crazy things for my job, but can't get this.

shoot and be safe
Rook at A1 - A6 Queen takes Rook Pawn at B5 takes queen checkmate. This. But if queen doesn't take rook and moves elsewhere, rook moves to b6. Check mate Cancel that, if queen moves to a7 it could then take the rook after its second move to b6 I have been pondering over this one for most of the afternoon. Danger-Mouse
This. But if queen doesn't take rook and moves elsewhere, rook moves to b6. Check mate Ah you pre-empted the question. Well done guys.
shoot and be safe
I've since edited my post. If the Queen only drops down 1, it can then remove the rook from its second position on b6
