rimmie
Hi all, after being able to get a regular supply of Winchester .17 HMR local, I thought I would buy a box and see how my Annie liked them. Using them the Winchesters are tight the chamber, some are so tight they need a sharp push on the bolt to chamber. Anyone had anything similar with Winchester rounds ? Have been using Remington up until now.
Rewulf
Everyone I know whos used them ,including myself, has not had this problem. What does seem to be an issue is,failure to fires, around 5%
wymberley
After a poor start with split necks in my first batch some time back, I've stuck with Remingtons in mine and with that one initial exception have found them to be utterly reliable and deadly accurate. Walker570
I have twelve complaints about them. Unfortunately the complainants had grey bushy tails and were eating corn out of the pheasant feeders last week :-) I shoot a 455 CZ with a 16 inch barrel and the Winchesters are scary accurate. One tree rat would only show his head above the feed bucket at 130yrds and received one right on the end of it's nose. They feed perfectly and having shot them for errr??? oh I don't know , maybe ever since CZ started shipping them to Edgars as I purchased one of the first my local RFD had in stock, I have never had any problems whatsoever. Given the chamber a good cleaning I presume Edited March 2, 2017 by Walker570

Remington don't make their own HMR ammo... Winchester, Hornady and CCI are the only manufacturers - as far as I am aware. IMO CCI then Hornady are the most reliable - and theres little between them - with Winchester the poorest (of the 3 manufacturers).

Pigeon Shredder.
Winchester, CCI, Fed V Shox, Hornady my CZ 452 will cope with any of these and remains deadly accurate.
Esca
I use both CCI and Winchester.Winchester are my fall back never had any problem and accurate. CCI group tighter (clover leaf).
nic
Silly comment, but are they slightly longer than those you previously used? If so, it may be that cleaning the chamber cures the problem..... A slight build up of carbon can cause this, only take a mm or two

Harry Callahan
agree, my problem with winchester was cracks in the casings and total miss fires, Yes, same here with Winchester's. I'm struggling to think if I ever saw a single split neck in CCI. Seen the odd one in Hornady but no ill effects. I never had a dud, hang or miss fire until I tried Winchester. I would use CCI only, if it was stocked where I am... everyone only seems to sell Hornady or Winchester around here.
Benthejockey
I like winchesters. They can be quite destructive, I've found them to be the most destructive of hornady, Remington and themselves. I shot a fox on Friday night at about 75yds with the nv and they blew a bloody great big hole where it came out the other side of its head. paulnix
agree, my problem with winchester was cracks in the casings and total miss fires, Same which was unfortunate as those without cracks were more accurate than anything else I've tried but out of a box only 19 didn't have cracks and 4 miss fired plus 2 with sunken bullets. Will try them again though in a while to see if the problems been sorted.
