rimfire4969
I am toying with the idea of sorting a website for our shoot. On it I would put shoot dates, guest rota, feed rota, work party dates, guns and beaters contact info plus any other useful info including a photo page. I would want it password protected so only guns and beaters have access to the info. To my thinking this will cut out the "I didn't receive the email/text for the work party" excuse. It would also be a good place to store the photos of all the funny things that happen on the shoot. We do have a gun in the shoot who can do the computer side of things for nothing so set up would be fairly cheap. Anyone else have a shoot website? Is it worth it? Mentalmac
If you want fairly cheap websites that are easy to build on your own, you can use 1&1 and their easy website builder. My work website costs me £1.19 (as a promo deal) a month. (Domain registration and monthly cost of £1 a month too).
Rupert
All this can be done a facebook page, form a closed group so only visible to those who are in the group, i find it more user friendly and certainly more usable on the phone and on the go, down side anyone in the group can post but very good for the "what time you going? shall we have a pint after is Jim giving it a miss " kind of thing. And its totally free. I find websites outdated now and only as good as the one guy who does the input. The FB group is constantly changing and updating by the shared nature of the input, I am nearly 50 so not a youngster. rimfire4969
It's the best tool for this job. Still think a website with all the dates and info is what I would like. Some of the guys in the shoot guns and beaters are not the most computer literate but can look at a website from their laptop or computer at home, not sure if there are many smart phones about. You don't need a smart phone for fecebook. It's fiddly editing a website and they aren't as easy to keep private. Websites also cost money. Facebook is free. rimfire4969
We have a guy in the shoot who does websites and other computer related stuff for a living so that does not cause a problem. My company web address costs me about £20 a year so cost is not a factor. I think a password protected website is just as secure as a password protected Facebook account maybe more so. I will not be using Facebook, it is not something I like or want to use.

A password protected or non google indexed "wiki" or even a forum type site should be relatively straightforward to setup/use. It's no good hiding your head in the sand. It's like saying that your not going to ride in a car because it is a tool of the devil.
shoot and be safe
What's wrong with a good old fashioned phone call. That way you know that they are informed and will have to think on their feet to find an excuse. How will you know if your members have looked at the website, or have even been online? I appreciate it can be a nightmare getting everyone to do there bit during the closed season. A simple text should get a response from most, but a call to the nonconformist is the only way you can guarantee that they have got the message. The website would be good from a social point of view, a bit like the threads on here where pictures are posted and banter is exchanged. Just my thoughts. Completely agree, but if work party dates etc are put up months in advance it cuts down on excuses.

Lloyd90
Just give everyone a printed letter of the work party dates on beaters day! You seem very fixed on your website. Genuinely think you'd be better served with a FB group.
paulnix
There are several applications which would provide what you want, Skype I would suggest for it if you against using FB plus it would be a lot better for this than FB. You can set up a group and room plus has the function of being a chat room ( doesn't have to be video or vocal can be typed) so you can all keep up to date and give feedback etc. Edited March 23, 2017 by paulnix
Mungler
The answer is a closed group on Facebook - it doesn't require any setting up or incur any cost. The benefit of a closed Facebook group is that Facebook has built in security and ensures security especially if you're putting out names, addresses, phone numbers and photos of shooters and others affiliated with shooting. So, there's the answer. Good luck investing your time and money in reinventing that wheel

Jbob
What about the old fashioned email. Just add all the members emails into one contact group and send an email to everyone. Its what we do at our clay shooting club. Anything that needs sharing is just added as an attachment. Just a thought and most people have an email address these days.
