ditchman
went down the road to north suffolk to pick up a very old ex REME valve seat facer....from a PW menber.FIRDOM....which i brought back....took apart cleaned and serviced it.....ready to use on the landrover when the weather gets better.... ditchman
first thing to do was test it....so i had a ferret in the scrap pile and found an old lanfrover cylinder head....that had cracked ...so i chucked it away..
ditchman
so i hoiked the valves out and wire brushed the 2 i was going to test it out on........this model landrover made a mistake....they put double valve springs on and as a result it wears the valves VERY badly as you can see by the last pic'
ditchman
soooo.............the area is now brushed up and ready to be prepared...so out come the valve guide cleaning "quills"....they are put in a drill chuck (just the one...the right size)...bit of petrol and wizzed up an' down the guide to scour it clean..........so the cutter "quills" will fit perfect (last pic)
ditchman
choose the right size cutter quill....snap it into the expanding chuck ...so it locks in position....grind off a cutting wheel to 45deg' slide it onto the quill....put electric spinner on top.....bit of spring pressure ...and pull trigger for 3-4 sec's.......................... ditchman
after 3-4 secs MAX take cutter off and check all the seat has been cut...................
ditchman
put quill chuck back on.....lock....and unscrew..........all the "stuff" you can see is cuttings and grit..........
ditchman
so there you have ....................another "shed spectacular".....................nice clean cuts ready for 2 new valves to be lapped in....(not in this head )...that goes back to the scrap pile... and a big thanks to FIRDOM...
