Blooming dog walkers

Bit of a nasty suprise this morning.

My farmer asked me to keep squizzer numbers down for him so for the past year so I have been merrily potting a couple a week off the feeder and he has been trapping away.

They were back on the feeder this week so I was all set to have a crack at them this morning but got to permission and some **** nicked the feeder! Deliberate destruction as well as the feeder was screwed to the tree and the screw was still there.

Trouble is the belt of trees I am targeting has a footpath down the side of it popular with dog walkers off a new estate (they are causing nightmares for the farmer at the moment on other issues) so I think someone has seen me heading to top the feeder up in the morning and has ripped it off the tree.

Time to look for a more camouflaged location for it I think!

Nothing to be done I know but felt like a vent!

Is it possible to put the feeder up above vandals reach. I know it would be a pain to top up with feed but at least it would still hopefully be there. I ask because I have just made one which I am about to put one up. I have not shot over a purpose made feeder before, just pheasant feeders and feed down the rides. Apologies for stretching the subject a bit, but any idea what radius these feeders will attract from? How many feeders to a 20 acre wood for instance.

None vandal walkers are a pain. Recently drove 70 miles for a day on the munties and squirrels and had the morning disrupted by a big yellow lab chasing deer everywhere. Stupid woman had just let it run free. It was 300yrds from the footpath.

Made my feeder out of a 24 inch scrap piece of stainless chimney liner. Now that is squirrel proof :good::yes: . Mounted it on a tanalised wood frame and eating area. Hope to be able to strap it to a tree with a ratchet strap.

Hi walker, take a look on the vermin section both Bruno and fisheruk are doing what your asking they can probably give you an idea of how many feeders they are using over what area.

Met up with fisher and some others last week talking about the northwest squirrel group and it was mentioned about them traveling quite some way between chickens for food.

Just a thought do you fellas have any streams or rivers in the areas your trapping and shooting? My garden is about 150ft long and haven't seen a squirrel in some time but at the end of the garden a small river runs past and there are always squirrels' running along fences and the trees on the river bank.

Don't worry about getting done your on private land going about your business. Sharp deterrents are for more than stopping people, stops other critters ragging at them and trying to chew there way in. If someone gets hurt while breaking the law tough.

My lad was out on our perm( A sizable wood) when two walkers came along and started to lecture him about shooting on the public footpath and did he know it was illegal, and that he was breaking the law.

Now to give my lad some credit (he is early twenties enjoys rugby and has been known to speak his mind) he politely informed them that he was full aware of the law and if they would kindly recheck there map they would find themselves 300yards off the footpath.

Just been to check larsen traps only to find that someone has let the call bird out. 200 yards at least from the nearest foot path. Every thing OK when I emptied the catch and fed the call bird this AM.

Must have been a very cleaver bird as it had undone both lid locks and put them neatly on the cage roof

Slightly off thread but I was advised by the police after having been burgled, to put carpet gripper along the top of the fence so if it happened again they could at least get blood samples !
