How do you anneal

Recommended Posts

Accurate temperature is the most important, using 750f Tempilaq on the inside of the case neck will give you a good indication.

Do not go by the case changing colour and never let it get "a dull red" or "cherry red" by the time it's that hot your brass is toast.

One of the simplest methods is using a low speed drill with a socket to hold the case and a gas torch. You don't need to drop them into water just pinch a baking tray and drop them onto that.

Make sure your cases are fully cleaned first, clean brass anneals easier than dirty brass :)

And don't use timings off the internet, different makes of brass and your particular heat source will give you the correct time (using Tempilac as a guide).

TT, I don't mind.

Just pop round and I will do them. But to be honest I would wait till you have a load. And sort into batches of the same make, as 1066 said it will fluff them up if you over do them.

Incedently I can't see the templac inside the necks, I done see how you can unless you're doing 50's. But then my eyesight terrible.

To be fair, I had a great deal of assistance on the wiring and electronics side of things by Old No7 who kindly shared all his information with me, in return I think I might have assisted with a little improved code but I didn't even write that, it was coded by an Apple senior software engineer during a tea break! Still, it works a treat :good:

Yes, I can't even source the materials for that amount in the UK. However, there is no feedback on time for these, it's just a simple variable resistor to set the time, whereas our design uses an arduino and stepper motor to precisely time the exposure in quarter second increments, this is fed back to the user via an led display.

As title lads. How do you anneal ?

Dougy on here has offered to sort my brass but he's helped me way to much so I'd like to do it myself .

I've seen videos of just using a blow torch ?

Is it a science or near enough job?

alternatively Nath just eschew all the other calibres a get something as forgiving as a quarterbore.............15 firings in, never annealed and still dead on. Oh and add still dead on with 40 thou of throat erosion too..............

There's a RCO I know of in Merthyr who makes annealers for around the £200 mark. I've seen one demo'd and they are well made. I'll need to check his details for you through the club if you are interested. Dougy's seen them too.
