New man cave

Recommended Posts

Well chaps

It's been a bit quiet on here lately

Lots of talk about nothing 😙

So I thought I'd better step out of the comfort zone and do something

New skills to me not much of a chippe or builder so though I would have a bit of a go and sort of build a man cave

So if you're interested I share it with you

First decision size

5m x4.2 garden space

Material wood ( that costs though it grew on trees )

Base

Well there's a lot of run on the garden so I dug Ina few posts and built a (level) frame work for it to sit on

Also knocked down old shed and a few trees the apples were orrible anyway

Only problem I see is you didn't rebate the posts to carry the floor joists. All the weight of the building and it's contents will be taken by whatever nails or fixings you used. You could put a block against the post and through bolt it to carry the load or maybe the resident chippies will offer a better solution. Be good to see your man cave progress like your punt build.

Nice job old farrier- lovin that view at the bottom of your garden.

Im building a man cave this week, not for me (for a client) as I already have one, and not so much building it more assembling lol its a log cabin from Shire Garden Buildings.

That's a fair size you've decided on, I will be looking forward to progress updates.

That's just the framework 😊

Got to start somewhere and as I said not a clue what I'm doing 👍

They are actually a doddle to put together, you just work clockwise or anti clock wise from the door gap slotting the boards in and tapping them home, window and door frames are already made up and just slot in when at the relevant height.

Child's play compared to what your doing.

You've made a nice job of that but I agree with Figgy, I'd personally put a bearer underneath the posts to support the 4x2's (or if we have any American members 2x4's😂)

And I'd put more noggins in between to stop flexing.

I did that after the picture in the rain so no pictures I'm afraid

Anyway log cabin comes with own floor and bearers and if it's not strong enough it's shuttered ready for concrete

Anyway

Decided best way to go was order a log cabin from 😂

6 weeks later it nearly arrived according to there tracker

However it never arrived until another 5 days after that

Haha clever old farrier 👍

Did you push the boat out and upgrade anything? Veranda, roof shingles or double glazed glass?

Your gonna so love putting that together, two days amd you'll be in.

So anyway it arrived and in driveway

I chose the log cabin design for the main reason of getting it up the garden so a piece at a time and off we go it's a fair walk 🙄

Had a couple of helpers doing there care in the community bit and 4 hours later big heap in the garde and then we found the plans checklist and screws nails ect

At the bottom of the pallet

So Saturday early start set out floor bearers and first 4logs easy peasy

Clockwise and we're up to the roof before the pubs open

Note this part is easy if there's 2 of you

One needs to be able to read 😙🤣

Up to roof

Veranda mate

Got to be able to sit outside your cave (when it's full) and have a brew
