a bit quick to judge, i think u need to get to know someone before u can make that kind of judgment. he gave no explanation about the 30 years illegal, and as hes into bushcraft i can imagine thats snaring rabbits at the most. and the knives he makes look to be very high quality.

i think the people on this forum are becoming very protective, uve got to let new people into the gene pool, dont want to end up like cornwall

cheers

Well if he was doing something illegal for 30 years it could not have been that "obvious" as he has become legal now and a criminal record in a firearms offence would not be the best way to get your ticket?

I think it was just badly worded, maybe a further explanation would help. Upto him though.

Anyway it seems he is making a real effort to find a permission and willing to give something in exchange. Beats the normal approach!

It seems that my post was misinterpreted, my fault for not explaining properly. What I meant was taking all legal british quarry with my lurchers, snaring, ferreting and long netting. I spent years putting "dinner" on the table for my family. Shooting at that time with shotguns never appealed to me. I have only recently been into the shooting side and my passion now is for black powder shooting. I only ever took then and when I go shooting now I still only take what I require i.e. to eat. Everything that I have done in the past several years has been done legally with full permission from the land owner.

My years spent "poaching" gave me a far better insight to the ways of the land and the knowledge that I gained is far greater than any book or course could ever teach you. I am not one of these "if it flies it dies" as I believe in conservation as most of us do. I also beat for my local shoot free of charge and also donate one of my knives and a hunting crop to my local hunt for their raffle to raise funds to help the hunt continue

I am also a bushcraft instructor in Wales where I instruct on edged tools, primitive fire lighting techniques, game preparation and camp cooking.

I am one of these people that I would sooner do someone a favour and they do me a favour. Money is not the be all and end all to me. You have to have it to survive but I only try to earn enough to get me by. I prefer my freezer full of game as opposed to supermarket rubbish. My wife and I have an allotment where we grow our own veg etc.

I hope this clears things up as I said in an earlier thread I'm not here to promote my knives, any member who has any problems regarding their knives: sharpening or making one themselves can contact me for any help or advice

Bernie, welcome to the site. How many ferrets do you own?

FM

Hi

At the moment I don't have any but am looking for 3 or 4 good working ferrets as I have permission which is overrun with rabbits but nearly impossible to purse net so the back end I'm going to long net it. I havent had ferrets now for approx 10 years and if you have any I'd be more than interested. I still have my ferret collars as I still use my terriers and sometimes put a ferret collar round the terriers collar

Cheers

welcome bernie. thanks for clearing that up.

Most people would not object to too strongly to catching someone in pursuit of "one for the pot" though repeat offences would cause considerable excitement. I think you have to do alot of work on your shoot, get involved in conservation projects, predator control, to appreciate how annoying it is to catch someone else reaping the benefits / destroying your good work. Hence some of the reactions your original post got. Most poaching nowadays isn't one for the pot but for financial / gambling gain (as i understand it from the sporting press ) again hence some peoples reactons. Hope you have not been put off by your initial post this is a great forum and the lads are very generous with their experience and time.

those knives are stunning
