Salop Matt
Folks I am after a new pair of shooting socks and garters. I bought a cheap pair last year to go with my tweed, how ever after wearing them 5/6 times I could now put two feet into one sock, they have stretched and distorted terribly and are not comfortable. Best place for them is the bin. In boots and wellys I wear Bridgedale socks normally and they are great, but now I need replacement shooting socks and garters. What do you recommend ? I do a fair bit of walking in them and always wear wellys. ATB Matt

norfolk dumpling
Get someone to knit them for you! My wife has produced a few pairs for me and with the right wool - there are specialist sock wools which are a mix of good sheep fleece + alpaca + small % of nylon which means warmth and strength - you will have the best socks ever. She also doubles up thickness of toes and heels which improves wear and warmth.

figgy
Have a look online for shooting socks. Or stockings as there known. Cheviot house and pennine make some good reasonably priced stuff. I have some expensive ones for better driven days and cheaper or worn worse for wear for general farm syndicate type days. The cushioned foot ones make a difference, nice and soft and keep your toes warm. Here's a link to get you started http://www.shootingsocks.co.uk/ Edited September 21, 2017 by figgy
welshwarrior
Cheviot House for me as they wear better and retain their shape.

Cheers socks over breeks tie a knot comfortably tight just under knee, straighten fluffy end and roll top of sock over. Double wrap if long enough, some garters are double some are single wrap. ? I find breeks, socks, garters much more comfortable than trousers for shooting and beating with either wellies or boots.
