Dellbert
I have a couple of Makita battery drills which are great apart from the batteries are knackered now the batteries are nearly the cost of a drill ,now im not tight but it seems a waste to just buy new drills . Any thoughts
bluesj
You could replace the cells in the battery

Me matt
Change a cell in a drill battery? Really? Plenty of aftermarket battries available for half the cost of new branded ones- ion ones that is. Edited October 14, 2017 by Me matt
bluesj
Its not hard just get a load of the right cells (ebay) and solder them together and fit them in the battery case, I've done it a couple of time for things that you couldn't get batteries for. Not really sure the saving would be worth it Edited October 14, 2017 by bluesj
bigrob
There's a bloke on ebay called - ponty-philip - I send mine to him for new cells.

sitsinhedges
Not worth replacing the cells, just buy pattern batteries off ebay for a fraction of the price.

sitsinhedges
anyone you would recomend ? Whatever is cheapest for an old drill. I replaced some 24v Panasonic 4amp batteries that were £100+ for about £37. If the drill goes tits up no big deal.

Rupert
Buy the kit and sell the drill on ebay to offset the outlay
Gordon R
There are various videos on YouTube showing how to revive batteries with an arc welder. Tried it - two were fine - three others were not. Probably held the rod on for too long. There was a small spark inside the batteries and they were no more. Scully
We all have our own Makita drills at work and one of the lads bought copies of Makita batteries for his. It will be interesting to see how they last.

I bought one of those replacement batteries you talk about but it never fitted my drill very well and eventually dropped out on the floor!!!! Cosd
I had three of the old 7.2v Makitas. Used them six days a week for years, fantastic drills. All the batteries died around the same time. I went on to waste my money on copy batteries, B&Q Dewalt £99 jobs. By that time I wasnt using them for Work and only DIY, and they were all rubbish. Bought a quality twin 18v drill/driver and impact Makita set and havent looked back. Will probably last me a lifetime now with DIY use only. Smaller, lighter and more powerful. Ive since added body only planer and SDS drill without the need for more batteries. Now buying body only Im getting quality tools for little money Edited October 20, 2017 by Cosd
