16BoreFan
My parents have just bought a small 3 acre hardwood on the edge of our pheasant shoot and we noticed when we did a drive on it a lot of Grey Squirrel activity. I snuck up next morning with the Hushpower .410 and a pocket full of Express Magnasonics and had only walked a few steps when a young squirrel ran up the tree to my right. A swift shot tumbled it back down and shot another brace before I even got to the edge of the woods. I leant against a tree and over the next hour added another four before I had to go again. The Hushpower works very well with the sub sonics and is all I use in the Gun. A few days later I went up again and arrived in the darkness listening to the world waking up. Several wood pigeons floated out from roost and soon enough the squirrels were awake. For a small area it seemed every where I looked was a bushy tail, ending up with some smart shooting and stalking another nine, which included three left and rights. The Hushpower worked well again, not disturbing the pheasants that scurried out to see what was happening. Will be out again this weekend to see how many, if any, are left! Rimfireboy
Good write up and pics Devon, I’ve been trying to avoid buying myself a Mossberg hushpower .410, but now you’ve got me thinking about it again. Arrrrrgh.......
16BoreFan
Thanks Rimfire. I ummed and ahhed then thought why not and I am glad I did. Its amazing how the wildlife doesn't seem to notice it, especially in such a small area as I have been shooting these in.
Mice!
Nice shooting there Devon, you'll probably get a lull at some point shooting those kind if numbers then find they start moving in from the pheasant shoot unless they stay with the feeders. Enjoy. mice! Edited November 25, 2017 by Mice! stick your numbers up on the vermin section
Lloyd90
Two outings and that many, will there be any left for your next trips out? Suppose pest control is the name of the game.
Bluebarrels
Well done mate, nice bag of tree rats I just love getting out and about with my Hushpower, cracking guns BB
Walker570
Kill'em all while you can, others will slink in from outside. I've killed somewhere close to 180 in our little ten acre wood over 3yrs and now we just get an occasional one or two venture in which survive maybe 48hrs. The small bird numbers, including nuthatch and tree creepers which we have never seen before have increased enormously. I have a pair of buzzards which visit and they get the dead ones but I believe they also take one or two live ones as well. Yep, keep up the attrition. eastdevon
Am heading out tomorrow morning just before first light to hopefully get the same sort of results you have been getting! This time of year I love as ya just need a pocket load of cartridges and ya gun! And the morning songbird chorus is just fantastic!!! Cranfield
Don't worry too much about shooting what you see, as Aristotle said, "Nature abhors a vacuum" Its surprising how quickly squirrels move into vacant areas.
Walker570
I like to think our wood is a squirrel free zone because any that show usually have 48hrs, but with the three this morning it makes 35 since last week in May in 10 acres with open fields all around us. It is a vain hope that we will ever see the numbers get reduced to where they should be ...NIL. Keep flattening 'em.
kenholland
picked up the 20 last week to go with the 4/10 quiet times ahead all those nook's and crannies I can shoot now.
telf
am seriously considering the mossberg in 20g with both the hushpower and normal barrels, when funds permit
Ultrastu
I have one and love it .but dont get the normal barrel . Under what circumstance would you ever use it over the silenced one .? When you want to deafen your self and scare everything and body .? Or when you want to enjoy the increased recoil ? Ok they un modded might swing a bit faster .but I can still swing mine fast enough to drop what I aim at .sooooo Can't see you'd ever use it. telf
just been looking at them again and it will be the hushpower first as its obviously cheaper then see if i want the other barrel ,it will mainly be for squirrel with the occasional pigeons and crows
