guzzicat
Mulling over this, I have a spare double ten in good condition, has anyone had one skimmed out to 8? In the event of the gun failing proof I would not be too upset I know Ralph Grant used to do this (I owned one) but any info , gunsmith details would be good
Penelope
Out of interest, what 10 do you have? I have an AYA Matador and a friend has a Gunmark Kestrel Greylag. The Greylag has a lot more meat to the barrels (I believe these are the ones Ralph Grant had bored out to 8's) and weighs in at 11lb, whilst the Matador weighs in at 9lb. tomaddy525
It would be interesting to know how much that would cost
motty
I personally think that there is very little to gain from boring out a 10 to an 8.

Is this not the place for opinion? I was merely pointing out that I think that getting a 10 bored out is a waste of time and money.
Big Mat
Even with the thickest barrels on a 10, you can't bore it out to a true 8.
mudpatten
As Big Mat says, it is`nt a true 8 bore, and a number of them blew up in proof.
theshootist
I have a Zabala bored out to 8. I was told it had been been bored out for the full length of the barrels. It' a cheap way of getting an 8, but given the resultant power to weight its recoil is massive!
Big Mat
Then don't forget that once it's then a tight 8 ( or is it a loose 9? ), you've then got the problem of loading for it. Plastic 8 bore wads are oversized i think? So then it's fibre wads so you don't bulge the barrels. So steel is out, so you've got to use bismuth or itx or whatever is avalible etc etc. More troubles and hassle than what shooting a "fake" 8 would be worth in my opinion. Novice
Out of interest, would you have to change the description on your cert from 10b to 8b?
mudpatten
Yep.
ClemFandango
I'm a bit late to this but... I wouldn't bother if it were me, I load 2.5 ounce 3.5inch carts for my ten, what benefit will you get from having the barrel bored out to 8 bore? I suppose you might make a weight saving, possibly less shot deformation due to less constriction but surely that's only really a consideration for Bismuth or Lead.
