Yes, they have thrown out the EU crony politicians, or at least most of them Their destiny is in their own hands. We alas; although we voted to leave the EU, still have our EU crony politicians in power. Edited March 6, 2018 by TriBsa
Vince Green
Italy is in too weak a position to be able to stick two fingers up to the EU. About all they can do is take unilateral action against the refugees but they will have a big fight on their hands if they do. Places like France are thinking while Italy is getting them they are not coming here. Any solution Italy comes up with will have to be pretty radical, if it is to work, and is going to draw a lot of criticism from every corner. Maybe that's whats got to happen in the long run to break the power of the traffickers. Say to the rescue ships you can pick them up by all means but you can't land them here, take them back. That just about tells you everything you need to know about the state of this wonderful single market. All these wonderful trading partners we cant afford to be without. They sell us cars, motorbikes, guns, shoes, clothes, white goods and wine. And we sell them er........................we sell them........... bostonmick
Being forth in a group of mainly skint countries is no big deal.i believe we are around fifth in the world.also if the others were so rich they would not give a toss about us leaving.i doubt Italy will have a referendum. One thing it will do, it will encourage the Right in Austria, Netherlands, Hungary, Poland, Germany, who are already making significant inroads in their own countries.....The EU is run by an unelected Commission, and supported by the EU Parliament. The Parliament has, until now, had a huge socialist majority, one of the reasons we always got shafted there.....now things are changing. and that majority doesn,t look quite so good. Gordon R
Quote It wasn't the EU did this to us. We did it to ourselves. So it wasn't the EU who sanctioned EU nationals ripping the backside out of our welfare system? Naïve in the extreme.

It's half of the world who have been allowed and encouraged by our politicians to pay nothing but take everything? Sadly that makes some of it our fault? Italy will be induced to stay by huge cash injection that will dazzle their politicos but once the reality dawns that the money can never ever be repaid, said politicos who signed up are gone along with gold plated deals. 5 star and hock. Gordon R
The abuse of the NHS and the welfare system is only our fault insofar as we have been too hospitable to far too many people who have abused the system. If people criminally defraud the UK, does that make it our fault? That is akin to blaming a bank for being robbed - well the money was there for the taking. The UK needs to tighten up the Welfare system to stop people claiming benefits when neither they, nor their dependants live in the UK. We need to stop health tourists. We need to deport people far more swiftly - they can lodge an appeal from the country they are returned to. It won't cure everything as we have millions of illegals already here, but we have to make a start before it passes the point of no return.
