ditchman
right..............got one end done.......the riverts turned out nice....an even finish to the heads...........the tools all sit in nice and square....and gave it a bit of a polish to check i hadnt scratched it during the process... to finish it i need to make one more rivert ...then insert the tools into the body and compress it in a leather bound vice ...then push the rivert thro the bronze hanger ...then the body and tools ...out the other side...........then i will know if the hardening and temper were done correctly....... will proberly do more tomorrow as i have to do some shopping and caring now....... you wouldnt think that this horse knife is over 100 years old !!! ditchman
Nearly there...........hope im not stringing it out too much for you....just want you to see how much small work goes on in sympathetcally restoring a 100 year old horse knife.......i have one more rivert to make and put in......quite an important one as it halves the distance of the throw of the springs....to tension them up...... the bronze belt hook went on alright ...i had to sharpen the rivert to a point to thread it throw so many holes ...before i cut it to length........ will finish it tomorrow.....as on wednesday it is going back to its owner so he can start making a repro leather pouch.....when that is done i will put some more pics up of the finished article................
