Brambles
With having a bit of time on my hands due to the lock down I thought I'd make a few walking sticks, the one with the dogs head has just been glued up so will get to the polishing and finish tomorrow, realised that I had no epoxy left I glued it up using Gorilla glue so I'll just have to see if it stands the test of time Edited April 1, 2020 by Brambles

Diver One
Very impressive! Started Monday...pics in another thread but cannot find it finished today...inspired by a thread on here about knife pommels the only slight issue is that present wife has seen it and wants her own for when tramping across the fields to check on her horse. So it's gone full circle and now I am on this
boo
Didnt think of using brass on the top , made some solid collars on the lathe , did think of using mosiac pins as they use in knife making , on a black buffalo thumbstick , just inlaid below the lyre , either side , think it may work, we will see .... Diver One
I pinched the brass idea from a knife thread 1 had a 12" piece of 2x1 ....thought I'd be clever and cut it on horizontal bandsaw, it took about 20 minutes. Roughed out the shape on the bench grinder and linisher. I must get some decent files, I've got everything else but my files are carp. any recommendations anybody? I like the slant where the horn joins the shaft...pinching that for the next one after I've finished the wife's

boo
An angle joint i find is easier than a square butt joint , coloured chalk is your friend here , showing high spots when marrying top and shank together , do like wood , these two one is black walnut the other laburnham, both on hazel shanks , havnt tried carving , wouldnt know were to start , clever them blokes.... That, Sir is taking stick making to another level. Makes my amateurish efforts pale into insignificance. Wonderful craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing your skill with us. boo
My dad was a stickmaker , sadly passed away with cancer , used to show and judge , i used to cut his shanks every year for him , but didnt really part take in stickmaking , knew the basics and process from idly watching him and talking , so i kind of fell into it , inherited his bits and bobs , so started having a go , probably my 3rd year now , trust me , always something to learn , nothing goes to plan , if a horn is going to well , usually bites you with a blow hole or crack, then what you think is junk turns out something nice , the old man was really good on the rams horn, im going to try and get stuck in next couple of months , do like working with the wood , love the colours, i sold a couple this season to a few guns , but thats about it , loft full of sticks, great pastime , slow and steady , as said always something to learn and improve on..... Diver One
What nobody tells you about when you first start using antler , horn and bone is the smell. It is seriously rank, absolutely stinks. When I am sanding it my dogs go mental looking round for what is making the smell so they can eat it
