samboy
Hi gang. I have been shooting shotguns for 39 years and my rimfire for 16 years. I've used the same referees for the last 3 renewals so why have i got to give the police their names etc again. Surely they could look at my past applications and see what they want and providing i've been in no trouble just issue my new sgc/fac or am i missing something ?. Thanks all. London Best
You wouldn’t want to use the same ref if he had found out you had been giving his missus one, would you? Just sayin’.

stuartyboy
Even if you change referees, the FEO will contact your previous referees to make sure there was no issue as to why you (the applicant) no longer wishes to use the previous referees. London Best
Mostly they don’t with my refs but it has happened. Likewise, I have been referee for several people and sometimes been contacted, sometimes not.
daveboy
Both my refs were contacted this time.

Interesting point. Good idea not to go around upsetting too many people. Your referees for FAC are meant to be in frequent contact with you. Over 5 years that may have changed even if nothing dramatic has happened. I was advised on first grant to put a shooting buddy and someone else who doesn’t particularly know anything about shooting, did similar for renewals. Running out of non-shooting friends now! I initially used as a retired police man as my referee when there was only one referee required. When I renewed my tickets, I needed 2 separate referees so asked 2 shooting friends to vouch for me. The licensing where adamant that they would contact my original referee to ensure that I hadn’t done anything that made him reluctant to act as a referee. Fair point really. A point to make is that anyone of good standing can act as a referee. It used to be thought or even encouraged that the person had to be of good standing in the community such as GP, MP etc. Now other ticket holders are widely accepted and even encouraged due to their knowledge of safe handling practices and whether the applicant has the right reasons to want to possess guns. Diver One
I applie for my Grant 5 years ago put my mate as a referee FEO rang him BUT he used my First Christian name ( as I put them both on the form so it tied up,with passport, driving licence etc) unfortunately my mate never knew that I had another name that was naever used, not even by my parents!🤔😂 FEO..."I am calling at Colin's later this morning...can I ask you a few questions?" my mate...."Colin who?, I don't know anyone called Colin " it caused some some confusion 😂😂😂
