New strain of CV!!!

London is to go into Tier 3 as of tomorrow night - because of a new strain of the virus they believe is causing it to run out of control. But surely the measures that we have in place should deal with this new variant (hands face space) and shouldn't be causing the spike or is it smoke and mirrors I do wonder???

Judging by the scenes in the shopping centres I am not really surprised there is a spike in London

Exactly this, everyone oop north has been saying how come London with higher cases than many areas is in a lower tier, well because its London.

Then everyone goes out shopping like its Christmas 2019, and boom the cases go up and up to tier 3 you go.

I'm hoping for the businesses that normally make a good deal of their profits around xmas that many places move down to tier 2, the only problem is that people will probably get all excited and then we'll be back to square one again.

If people had responded correctly to the earlier restrictions it would be on the downward slope by now!

This ^^^^^^^

Its not complicated, its very very simple really.

The one thing about this pandemic is that everybody now knows about how viruses are transmitted. In a way that we never appreciated about colds and flu although it was much the same story. You could almost say we are experts.

So there should be no excuses, an average of 400 plus people a day are dying, Every one of them caught it somewhere somehow n

Conjecture!?

Germany was previously held up as the European benchmark on how to manage and contain COVID, speaking to a colleague there today he reckons they have completely lost the plot with respect to how, where and what is causing the increase in infections. They go into a hard lockdown on Wednesday.

I look forward to details of this supposedly new strain of COVID in London being shared, if it really is a new strain then it'll be tested and classified as such.

Our government have been making it up as they go along from day one, I would not put anything past them currently. What I do find astonishing is that otherwise rational friends of mine seem to fully buy into, no questions asked, whatever the government are telling them.

Have they really? I don't think so, they have been doing their level best to bring order to all this chaos. And doing a pretty good job too over all.

But you are obviously cleverer than them . Or think you are.....................

Have you ever thought it might just be you who is making it up as you go along?

Nothing wrong with sharing different perspectives Vince and no need to get personal and try to get a bite. 1/5 for the attempt though.

Its people like you that are part of the problem, necessary ? NO, Avoidable? YES

So what was we all meant to do? Stay locked up since March? I bet you’ve been doing that. If you hadn’t realised restaurants and theatres have been open. You’re the problem the economy’s crashing.

I’m gutted. I had two dinners in London booked this week and next and tickets for the London Palladium pantomime  (which I’ve seen for the past few years and is brilliant).

Some will suggest that you are part of the problem, others will see you as part of the solution to getting businesses back on their feet and an attempt at a resemblance of a return to normal. FWIW I fall into the latter camp.

I didn't realise the brown had hit the fan in Germany,  the only other country that seems to get reported about is the States, I saw that 3000 had died in a day last week.

But I haven't gone out of my way to see what's happening in other countries.

I think our gov have done ok, but have been trying to keep things open while containing the virus and it's not quite working,  like London now.

This was why I thought the tiers were and are a good idea, things are improving in Lancashire,  how they will go if half of Lancashire goes into 2 while the other stays in 3 I've no idea, people will travel the short distance from 3 too 2.

But why travel to London,  why not eat locally,  obviously lots of people want to go into London and now its being moved into tier 3.

I don’t know why they didn’t split London up as they have with Essex and Herts. The west end has relatively low rates. It’s the scummy parts of London that have higher ones.

Someone said today during a discussion on this that actual deaths overall this year are running below average.  So where's the spike?  Are the covid deaths partially false as are some of the test results?   They have certainly scared a large portion of the population with people walking around looking like they have seen a ghost.

They are c. 63,000 above the five year average I am afraid.

The nature of my work means that I get to speak to people from West Coast US to Japan and quite a few places in between, COVID and the B word are the opening discussions to most meetings with participants outside the UK.

For the life of me I don't understand why anyone would buy into regional lock-downs unless travel between the regions is forcibly stopped. Anyone who thinks the reason the R number is increasing is because people aren't complying with guidelines but that regional lockdowns are effective is missing the point IMHO.

Short, sharp national lockdowns seems to be effective but of course the fabric of UK PLC is currently in crisis.

I live in the London Borough with the highest rate apparently (Havering), definitely not the scummiest part of London.

I love that, one rule for the rich and another for the poor, probably the erm poorer areas people are still going to work because they have to,  while in the more affluent areas people are staying home getting paid, maybe working from home.

That for me is why II wouldn't be travelling into London for a meal and a show.

Lancs is in tier 3 while Yorkshire is in 2, in some areas like Skipton,  the police have been stopping cars heading for Skipton and I have no problem with that otherwise places like Skipton will be in 3 before you know it.

Not the scummiest I agree but Romford? Rainham?

Collier Row isn’t bad if I remember.
