Walker570
Am I being unfair, but should this man give up his present job and look for a job as Funeral Director?
JohnfromUK
I'm not defending Hancock - but if this is the result of people being asked to stay at home - Hancock is NOT the problem. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9131071/Priti-Patel-defends-police-strong-enforcement-Covid-rules.html

Yes I think you are being unfair, I doubt any of us would want his job.

Walker570
Spent 28yrs judging people and personally I wouldn't pay him in brass washers and I believe our Nigel thinks the same way and he is a pretty good judge of character. mel b3
I think his main problem is that he looks and acts like a typical politician , from time to time we see a glimpse of a normal man , that actually seems to care , in those brief moments, he seems like a decent chap. We all have an opinion about the way that Hancock or johnson are handling things , but we will never be in the position to make a decision that may well cost many thousands of lives , and then have those decisions minutely dissected by historians for the next 500 years. Are you including his opinion of Trump in that assessment??? I think Hancock is doing a pretty good job
The Heron
Who in their right mind would want that job?
oowee
Jeremy Hunt oversaw the imposition of the new Junior Doctors contract. He was also Sec of State during operation Cygnus the pre test trial for a Covid epidemic. The trial identified the issues of shortage of PPE, ventilators and NHS capacity that subsequently became realities when Covid arrived. Hancock followed in Hunt's footsteps and ignored the findings of the Cygnus trial. Much of the blame for the endless deaths lies at the feet of the two of them. You’ve mentioned the Operation Cygnus planning before. I am not sure the full report has been published but of the three things you mention Availability of PPE - this was an issue originally but was solved relatively quickly and seemed not to be material in the overall scheme of things. Ventilators - again was an initial shortage. It as it turns out ventilating a lot of the patients caused more harm than good (so perhaps a shortage saved lives!) and again doesn’t appear to have been a material problem. NHS capacity - the most difficult problem to solve. I am not sure what the recommendations were in the report but difficult to provide massive surge capacity without a massive uptick in resourcing and facilities which would require more money being thrown at a hugely inefficient organisation
