Are there any springers on the market that are more metal than plastic. The HW 45 is beyond my price range.

Nice looking but as pointed out by Bob, not a springer.

Artemis PP700W or S-A from essex cut price airguns, £100 & £140 in that order. PCP with around 80 full power shots, the S-A comes with sights but you will be fitting an after market scope/red dot within days of buying one of these pistols. Nothing comes close at this price. Not a springer though.

I've yet to go round a car boot sale and not see an old webley pistol or 3 for sale at reasonable money. Lovely things to shoot. Had the older typhoon myself. Not the power of my friends hw45 but considerably more accurate.

Ive got an old webley senior, it’s lovely to shoot and spits .22 eley wasps out at 400fps. Much nicer than the later models.

Is that modern day Wasps or do you have the older type, which I 

think were ever so slightly a different size.

The original eley wasp 5.6mm .22, I’ve only got a few tins left now. I save them for my old British guns as they fit the bore properly.

Most people seem to have success with rws superdomes in the older larger bore guns.

Probably the h&n ftt’s in 5.54mm head size. I’ve read that they’re a tight fit in Weihrauch barrels, so might be ok in the old British stuff?
