WalkedUp
Came back to a horrid smell last weekend. Assumed it was the dog but couldn’t locate the smell. Eventually took the plinth off the kitchen and discovered a huge puddle of rotten food. Quickly became apparent a rat had bored through the wall (where an old copper pipe had been ripped out by the builder and not filled) and chewed the dishwasher waste. As I was out on the moor on the Sunday with the dog I had to make a quick repair. Expanding foam to fill the cavity then mortar to the outside to fill the now 40mm Ø hole. Cut out the offending section of dishwasher waste to then jointed with a male-male adaptor. Messy work as there was little slack and the under plinth had the consistency of rotten vomit. One hole plugged then realised the pipe was Swiss cheese so tried to take the dishwasher out. Physically couldn’t. Bought a new universal waste. Tried again on Monday to pull it out, the feet are lower than the floor (painfully slow spanner work in the now very funky slop to lift them). Still would not budge. Accidentally pulled the door off but was able to put it back on. Got a torch out and discovered that the kitchen fitted had screwed the BACK of the dishwasher to the wall 🙈. Ordered two 300mm extensions to the screwdriver to release it. On Wednesday I managed to reach the screws but as they were skewed I couldn’t get purchase on them. By Thursday I had lost patience so ripped the beggar off the wall, using my legs as jacks and almost taking the skin off my fingers. Took it apart and found the correct waste online, ordered. It arrived today so I reassembled the unit. It works but the back steel seam is shot and leaks where it was ripped from the wall. Can I use JB Weld to fill the gap? Will it hold? A £400 replacement will nuke my disposable income for the next two months, whereas flooding the kitchen and ruining the engineered oak floor will knacker my funds for a year. ph5172
Shouldn’t see why not. You could also try some frame sealant
Blackpowder
Never have that problem with the washing up bowl and scrubber, having said that only lack of space stops me having a washer. Blackpowder
Jim Neal
You're missing a trick here mate. When they've got marigolds on, hands in the bowl, they can't fight you off so easily. Works best after beer #4 Disconnect the machine
bruno22rf
Buy a used one from Marketplace or similar, I've never bought a new one and £100 will buy you one that will last for years, our last one was £40 and we had it for 7 years, threw it out cos I thought it was leaking but it was a moisture trap my other half had placed on top that was filling up overnight then leaking!!! A £100 replacement bought us a year old example that actually monitors your water hardness and soap concentration.
