1st attempt at a Stick

Dropped a couple of clangers, worst was the epoxy, filling both the stick and antler at the same time and finding it had started to set in the antler before it should have :lookaround: It left me a space of about 1/4 inch that i filled later with more epoxy and polished flat, I couldn't go back unless i drilled out all the epoxy. The other was i found that the belt sander was a tad too aggressive while rounding off the forks, im going down to 220 grit or if advised whatever suggested.

finished off with yacht varnish and a spiked steel ferrule, im happy with the result, the next one will be an improvement.

A big thanks to  Old Boggy for the bits and bobs, could not have done without you. 👍

nothing wrong with that ...........queen would be glad of it:good:

Its a tad on the long side for Mrs Queen and ive finished off both ends.

Mrs Dougy would like it but the last one i got for her she left lying in a field of foot high rapeseed. She can have a garden cane and like it.

As said, that’s a good looking and functional stick, so well done.

Look forward to seeing the next ones as Holloway rightly said, this stickmaking lark can be very addictive.

Good luck.

Old Boggy made me one some years ago the same style as yours.Still as good as new and helps me get around 👍 .

Hope you and family are well and how is the wallet going such a joy to see his face.

Morning Bill,

We’re fine thank you. You and yours are too I hope.

Glad that the stick is still doing its duty. Hope that the mobility improves soon.

That lovely wallet that Mel’s wife Lin very kindly made is Ritchie’s pride and joy and always receives good comments.

Good first attempt 😊

i put an Alpine Spike on mine BUT also get a rubber cover for it. If you put 1/2 small washers in the rubber cover/ferrule and push them in to the end then when you fit it over the spike it makes a remarkably efficient shock absorber that also deadens the sound. Take it off and pocket it when the spike is required. Also drill out the end and fit 4/5 rare earth magnets before fitting the spike, handy for picking up spent cartridges( only works with steel, spikes)

Thanks for the tip, there only used when picking up, generally (ground permitting) we still them in the ground where we stand. Too late for the magnets (poo) I glued some on a stick 2+ years back and they did eventually come off.  Next one I will use your idea.
