Vince Green
I have to produce photo ID to go to the council dump. They ask for it but nobody actually reads it they just say OK thanks as soon as you pull it out of your pocket. This always occurred in America. In some states you have to produce ID to buy alcohol but nobody reads it or seems to think a British driving license is in anyway unusual as a form of ID

It's not proof of age, it's a throwback regulation that seems to serve no purpose in the modern world. "You got ID for that?" The Americans still have hangups about alcohol Some states more than others.
London Best
I’ve been in over 20 different states and never been asked for ID for alcohol.

I used to have work trips to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. In many restaurants and bars there unless you had photo ID you were drinking soda. This was the only area I came across it. JohnfromUK
On voter ID, it seems that the Tories having introduced the requirement to show voter ID, Labour are about to remove it. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14250805/Labour-rig-election-voter-ID-scheme.html They are also planning to give votes to foreigners who 'live' in the UK and extend voting age to start at 16. Basically and attempt by Labour to rig elections in its favour and turn a blind eye to electoral fraud and extending voting rights to those amongst whom Labour think they have a majority. I have seen more forged passports than you can point a stick at. How will this address the larger postal vote fraud? Why oh why do we still not have proper ID cards that carries all your details in a download able form ? So many crimes would be prevented
Gordon R
They had a go at creating one about 10 years ago. It was a fiasco, not helped by the inept people in charge of it.
