stu nesling
Hi iam loking to resurect and old hw35 i bought when i was 16 (40+ yrs ago). it has a 1 piece mount and an old unknown brand of scope on it. what i do remember is that it destroys scopes that are not up to the job. (with the recoil.) how highup the scope range do i need to be looking nowadays to find something that will not die in a month ?? have seen a few advertised, such as a leupold fixed 6x42, will it survive ? any suggestions ? tks

Surviving .308 recoil does not, unfortunately, mean that a scope will survive the to and fro jump, more like a vibration than recoil, of a springer. My HW35e has worn an Optima scope since 1979 with no problems.

stu nesling
thanks for the insight guys, i will look into it a bit more and see what i can find at an acceptable price. my hw35 used to have a 22" barrel but was cut down and re-crowned sometime i the eighties by a good smith makes it a lot more nimble in the woods. bruno22rf
I would suggest that you get the gun serviced/tuned before spending cash on a scope, never known a 35 to have a particularly harsh recoil and cutting the barrel down may have caused the problem? Bigbob
I put the same hawke scope on all my springers then put the same on my rimmy . it may not but i think it helps if your swapping guns over and the scopes the same no flapping about
BigFatHairyYeti
I have never had an issue with scopes on a springer. I’d say they are fine whichever you choose. More the right one for the job than anything else.
