Hi

iam loking to resurect and old hw35 i bought when i was 16 (40+ yrs ago).

it has a 1 piece mount and an old unknown brand of scope on it.

what i do remember is that it destroys scopes that are not up to the job.  (with the recoil.)

how highup the scope range do i need to be looking nowadays to find something that will not die in a month ??

have seen a few advertised, such as a leupold fixed 6x42, will it survive ?

any suggestions ?

tks

I have a Leupold 6x42 on a .308 for the last 35 years and it never loses zero.
Surviving  .308 recoil does not, unfortunately, mean that a scope will survive the to and fro jump, more like a vibration than recoil, of a springer.
My HW35e has worn an Optima scope since 1979 with no problems.

thanks for the insight guys, i will look into it a bit more and see what i can find at an acceptable price.

my hw35 used to have a 22" barrel but was cut down and re-crowned sometime i the eighties by a good smith

makes it a lot more nimble in the woods.

hello, i would look at a larger front lens if your shooting in woods and it is getting darker towards winter, maybe 50 mm with better light gathering lenses, although some scopes at 40mm are better than cheap 50mm
