Oh wait ....

That doesn’t stop them getting here, it just decides what we do with them once they are here.

You haven't even given an argument as to why leaving the EU has had any impact at all, other than a conspiracy theory that the french are pushing more migrants towards the UK than they were before, but you can't show any evidence for that.

Now where's Heneryd with his roll of tin foil when you need him 🤔

You can’t show any evidence that they aren’t. Although the numbers support my theory.

Can you not see that the two things are connected ?

If they knew that their attempts at asylum would be a waste of time and money (that these destitute refugees from war torn countries seem to have plenty of) then you know , they might just not bother getting in that dinghy in the first place ?

These people cram into dinghies to cross dangerous waters with no life vests or anything. Often with their children, I don’t think the idea that they might get deported if they get caught will be any deterrent to them.

Why dont we find out if they would prefer Rwanda ?

Lets be honest, France isnt the greatest, they eat a lot of cheese and garlic, but the weathers slightly better. and although the French police do love a good baton charge with liberal doses of pepper spray, they do have the ECHR, just the same as here, so why not just claim asylum there ?
Then once they have embraced the Gallic lifestyle , got their French/EU passport , they can pop over and visit us, on a visa of course.
One would think there is something we have that the EU doesnt, I mean , surely the French put them up in hotels too as they are being processed ?

You don’t think the two things are in any way connected? Just a huge coincidence, just as everything else that has gone to the dogs since we left has had nothing to do with it either?

👍 spot on.

As for other things that have gone to the dogs, ask somebody who has tried to get staff in hospitality or agriculture recently about it.

Ponzi scheme.

Ask anyone who wants smaller class sizes, shorter NHS waiting lists, a same day doctor’s appointment like the old days, the M25 not looking like a car park 24/7 etc

That’s nonsense.

5 seconds on Google and…

By contrast, in the year to June 2023, detections of irregular border crossings at the external borders of Europe increased by a third, and irregular arrivals to Italy across the Mediterranean have almost doubled.

I won’t paste the links, no one seems to read them 😀

So we have a massive increase into Europe as a whole (and with most European countries now rebelling on immigration; Germany, Sweden, Holland, Poland, Hungry etc.) and yet, singularly, the reason our illegal immigration stats are through the roof is because we left the EU? 😆 Brilliant. You must work in the Home Office.

As an aside, the better argument to make would be in relation to authorised migration following our exit from the EU (which is through the roof as a result of deals being struck) but at least we know who those people are.

Mungler - you are in danger of letting facts cloud the issue. 🙂

It’s the useful idiots and it stretches back to dreamy socialist ideologies, however, we don’t have an infinite supply of land (eg housing), services (eg nhs), or money (eg tax revenue) or income (eg jobs).

Aside from the indigenous population already here not unreasonably thinking they should get first crack at what’s available, the dreamy lefties think that everything but everything can be fixed with an infinite supply of other peoples’ money (and that ‘other people’ will sit by and poke up with that 😀

I have no idea what you are replying to there. Or what a Ponzi scheme is.

So illegal immigration from a none EU member to a EU member is is up. And immigration from a EU member to a none EU member is also up at the same time?

Also why is it now, after years of X-raying wagons over in France to stop illegal immigrants entering the country. Can we now not seem to catch loads of them on the shore line setting off for the uk in full view of everybody? Unless of course the French are turning a blind eye for some reason?

The fact is, since we left the EU illegal immigration is up. That’s the only fact on this thread 😂

They quite obviously are, but I think for very different reasons than 'Brexit', quite simply no one wants them France included.

Simply because we have no jurisdiction on French beaches.

Do we still have jurisdiction in French ports? Genuine question.

Owain - the main fact on this thread is that you haven't a clue what you are talking about. We already have over 6 million illegals , but official figures show only a fraction.

How do you know the number of illegals since we left the EU is up? It might be, it might not, but there is no proof, so to claim it as fact is just a bit silly.

owain - your blind faith in the figures above is beyond silly.

How do you know how many arrive? Do they all report to the Home Office or merely disappear into the ether?

I have provided official government statistics to reinforce my point. Yet I’m the one who is blind?
