I wonder if this would make a difference to insurance?

I have a Hilux that I do not use for commercial purposes, but have to insure it as a commercial vehicle.

I’m in the same boat (or truck) drive a ranger wildtrack with no commercial use at all and no carrying of goods other than my own property (shooting / fishing gear) and yet have to pay for commercial insurance, I shall be keeping an eye on this with fingers crossed for a reduction in price.

That only applies if you are VAT registered and have claimed the VAT on the purchase back.

None of this will change.

So i buy a used car on vat. Used truck 20%vat so now truck declassifyed so clased as a car. I am not vat regsterd and cannot clame vat back

VAT can only be charged, if the VAT on the original purchase was claimed back.

If the original purchaser hasn't claimed the VAT back, then no VAT can be charged on the sale. If they have claimed the VAT back, then VAT has to be charged on the sale.
