TIGHTCHOKE Posted March 8 Report Share Posted March 8 With the expected stiff Breeze for Friday afternoon, Stockybasher and I decided to get out again to a different farm in the Fens. We agreed to meet at 14:30 and I arrived early to find one of the Farm Hands had just gone through the gate to start ploughing the fields. As soon as Stockybasher turned up I rushed over to check the code on the padlock was the same as we had been given, it was so no more grief, unlike the trip on Tuesday. We each chose a position to shoot from and were in place and ready to go by about 15:30. It was very slow initially, I shot a magpie, a crow and two jackdaws and waited for the WPs to move. Eventually they started slowly and I was getting a shot or two every 10 minutes or so. Stockybasher was feeling the cold and decided to go home about 17:30, when he phoned me I managed to shoot three with the phone in my left hand. They just kept coming in ones and twos with a larger group every now and then. Twice I managed 3 shots from the old Escort and the old RED cartridges. When it finally went dark just after 18:15 I had shot 37 Wood Pigeons. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon out in the Fens. marsh man Posted March 9 Report Share Posted March 9 37 is a good bag at anytime of the year and to get that amount flighting on a cold blustery day in early March is a excellent bag and well deserved , your buddy sound a bit like me nowadays , going home early because it was so cold , can't say I blame him P S Nice set of photos T C . TIGHTCHOKE Posted March 9 Author Report Share Posted March 9 Thank you Gentlemen, I was in a small wood that is basically a figure of 8 made up of mostly conifers around the edges and across the middle with a few old deciduous trees. Luckily the dropping sun allowed me to see the silhouetted Wood Pigeons coming towards me and when they were crossing over the top of the trees they made damned good targets. I had 5 shots for 2 but saw nothing from 4pm onwards - and it was Fing cold stood doing nothing !! I know exactly what you mean , I went roost shooting the four Saturday afternoons in February , I say went because that is about all I done ( went ) , after a good walk round to have a yarn with anyone else who was nearby I would give it a hour or so and if things were quite then my warm house was more appealing than the cold wood I was in , a sure sign that old age have arrived Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
