I mean , even the left wing press is a bit ashamed of this kind of err, fascist behaviour from the mayor and police.

Shut down free speech ? Whatever next....

Get a grip oowee, this is a mayor telling his police force to shut down a political gathering, I don't care if it is left or right wing, it is the abuse of power that we are seeing that is frightening.

"The Mayor of the City of Brussels, who pressured the venue hosting the National Conservatism conference not to do so, hosted the mayor of the Iranian capital in June 2023, it has emerged.
Mayor Philippe Close of the Socialist Party reportedly pushed the Concert Noble to pull out from hosting the event a matter of days before it was due to start on April 16.
However, on June 12 2023 Close posted an image on X of a collection of mayors from around the world, including the mayor of Tehran, at the Brussels Urban Summit hosted at the Town Hall.
Tehran mayor Alireza Zakani was placed under sanctions by the UK in 2023 on the grounds that he had been "involved in the commission of serious human rights violations or abuses in Iran". He was also reportedly an Iranian paramilitary prior to becoming the capital city's mayor.
According to Faces of Crime, Zakani was the chair of the Supreme Assembly of the paramilitary group Basij between 2016 and 2019.
Last year, weeks before attending the conference in Belgium, Zakani said that women who defied rules around wearing the hijab would be prevented from using the Tehran metro.
According to UAE outlet The National, Zakani said: "We will proceed according to the country’s laws in this regard. Our first step is issuing notices, then we issue warnings to the unveiled women, and in the third stage we prevent them from entering the metro stations."
News about Zakani's invitation to the Brussels Town Hall comes after NatCon, attended by Nigel Farage, Suella Braverman, and British academic Matt Goodwin, was temporarily shut down after a local official called in the police.
Emir Kir, the mayor of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, a municipality of Brussels where the event was being held, told Politico earlier today that he would "immediately take measures to ban" the event.
This was the third attempt to prevent NatCon from proceeding, after Mayor Close pressured Concert Noble to cancel the event, before the mayor of Etterbeek pushed the second choice venue - the Sofitel hotel - to cancel it too.
Despite authorities descending on the third choice of venue, police then appeared to back off.
Sky News' Darren McCaffrey who was the scene wrote on X: "Police now suggesting they won’t be dragging people out of NatConTalk conference in Brussels but rather their tactic is that they are not letting anyone else in and people can leave and not re-enter the venue. Meanwhile, Suella Braverman is continuing to deliver her speech."

I don't doubt it. My surprise is that there are those that choose to share a platform with Orban and more so that there are those that want to listen. Freedom of speech is a democratic privilege to be preserved, unfortunately there are those that use it to undermine the institution of democracy.

One of the main reasons the mayor used to stop the meeting , was that 'far right' attendees were homophobic and transphobic, and there were reports of hate speech going on inside, despite banning the use of the previous 2 venues before any speech had been uttered !
Yet last year he hosted a hard line Islamic mayor, whose city regularly persecutes , and executes those who practice the above traits... Dont you find that even a teeny weeny bit hypocritical ?

I worry about the wider issue of where this is heading. The entire west seems hell bent on dragging its citizens into a situation where hurt feelings matter more than the truth, racism and sexism is rife with so called positive action giving jobs to people based on gender (whatever that even is these days) and race over ability, illegal immigrants some of which don't share the native populations beliefs of freedom, equality and peace and they're being prevented from speaking out or stopping it by the banning of free speech as appears to have happened at this conference.

The parallels of Nazi Germany after the unfair treaty of Versillies was forced on its population after ww1, where they were blamed and forced to pay for issues that weren't soley their fault is not lost on me and if this sort of maffia type behaviour by arms of the state continues across the west, I fear what evil could raise its ugly head as subjugated everyday people finally have enough.

I share the concern for different reasons. We have a concerted effort by Putin and Jinping to undermine the success of the west. A continuous war of false narrative is being used to exploit our freedom of speech. Creating fear amongst the population, unable to discern reality. As a result we have the rise of extremism. It starts with a desire for nationalism, a desire to retreat to the golden times of the past. A restriction of civil liberties, then exiting of the very institutions that protect our freedom.  State control of the media and state control of the law.

Look at the mess the US is in with the rise of MAGA and the marginalisation of conservative values. A country that could have had a convicted rapist as president operating from prison.  Contrast that with the desire to push out the conservative agenda in the UK and replace it with a right wing narrative as a reaction to media falsehoods.

We don't have a Conservative agenda from Labour or the Tories, just Woke left wing garbage policies that are destroying the country.

Difference between civil and criminal law.

A jury verdict in May 2023 found Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll, and ordered him to pay $5 million in damages. Trump appealed and made an unsuccessful counterclaim. In July, Judge Kaplan clarified that the jury had found that Trump had raped Carroll according to the common definition of the word.[d][e]

Hopefully Don Snorleone will testify over the next few weeks. Judge Merchan has his measure.

Shyster. Wouldn't trust him an inch. Brexit bonus? A US-UK trade deal?  Free trade? Tell that to those in farming who will see their livelihoods seriously affected by the UK-AUS deal, those in the offshore fishing industry. Farage has become a millionaire from Brexit. A very nice little earner. Arthur Daley without the charm. A grifter.

While I don't agree with everything you say there, I think you understand my points and your right that the rise of people like trump, farage, le Penn and others like in the Netherlands is surely the start as politics gets more polarised.
