Lack of instructions

Increasingly now when buying new stuff, no instructions are included so you have to visit a website to download such information. Not a great problem but worse still are those dreaded QR code thingies. Even some restaurants/cafes are now not printing menus but just show a QR code that has to be zapped to establish what’s on offer.

I am a self confessed technophobe still set in the 20th Century and am dreading my encounter with setting up a new ‘hub’ that I’ve been sent to enable continuation of the internet once my landline has been disconnected. No instructions, no website, just a QR code. It was my choice to do away with the landline as all I seem to get are nuisance calls and it will save me quite a bit of money in the process. Probably should have done it years ago.

Does anyone else struggle with such modernities or is it just me?

I think WE have to accept the WE are getting old, all this stuff is for the youngsters (relatively)

I have a mobile phone for call and texts and an occasional photograph.

I have Canon cameras for photography and a desktop computer for all the email, shopping and forum stuff.

Thank you Dave. I was convinced that you would respond with ‘Yes it is just you’.:yahoo:

Good morning Old Boggy

You are not alone, as a 'mature' Gen'lman, I also struggle greatly with 'elec-trickery' and for awhile now with the lack of hard instructions in with many purchased items.

Surely sir a “real man” scoffs in the face of instructions and knows innately what needs to be done in any situation.

*then looks for the instructions later, to fix whatever mess he has created……

How very true that is. We’ve all done that I’m sure.

Be careful with QR codes in public places.  Several local car parks have a QR code you scan in order to pay (no cash = no machines vandalised nightly).  However, the QR codes have had (neat and hard to spot unless you are looking for them) similar labels stuck over them with a QR code that takes you to a scam site, so you pay your fee and get done by the council for not paying - AND the scammers have your payment system details.  The alternative is to use an app that is permanent on your phone, but (some of?) these now charge a 'handling fee' for every time you park.

Good morning Chris .. If we had ladder positions I would be very near the bottom rung but life is one big learning curve , we will never stop learning .

Only last week my lap top went on the blink as no little arrow appeared to click on your pass word , with my old one I used to take the battery out for a short while then back it go , switch back on and the problem was normally solved , my new(ish) one have no access to the battery ( not even sure it have got one ) so I cannot rely on that .

Anyhow I ended up firing up my ole one and asking that one how to sort the problem out on my new one , well after a couple of failed attempts it then said , hold the on /off button down for 10 seconds , wait 10 seconds and then switch it back and hey presto it worked a treat , maybe I should use my ole one and put my newish one in retirement

everything now takes longer to do because of technology.take my car isurance for example you need to activate an app and download this and that and have your phone with you at all times so your every move can be tracked.sorry but i am not a child and do not have my smart phone glued to my person 24/7.lets look at parking apps you need to have god knows how many to park in different places or you can not park.supermarkets getting you to scan your items aswell all of these things saves these people lots but do you get a reduction in the price ?.hell no.
