Rugby sevens final was great and worth catching up on, I'll not spoil it,  and only 7 minutes each way.

I only caught the mens finals, within a minute my hands were twitching and I was shouting at the telly 🤣🤣

Thanks, I'll watch that early AM tomorrow 👍

Loving it all, but finding some of the coverage is flitting around a bit 🤷‍♂️

That's the big problem with the BBC footage,  if we weren't going away next week I'd pay for Discovery + and watch the events I want to see and not just bits.

I'm sure, in previous years, the Olympics was on both BBC 1 and 2 ?

Anyway, enjoyed the first day very much 😀

There's stuff on I player as well, it's just hit and miss on what you get.

Seems to be limited stuff on the iplayer when I looked earlier. Might just record the highlights every night and watch that early AM 😃

Just been watching mountain bikers racing through the woods on a purpose made track in the Paris Olympics. Great fun! And very popular.
Fine on a purpose made course.
But, where do they practice? There cannot be many such purpose made tracks.
Well, I ‘ll tell you where two of them practice. Trespassing in a private 1,000 acre wood on a hillside in Leicestershire where they rode past me as I was gralloching deer.
And two others were practising as they rode along a sheep track through the line of Guns as we were walking up grouse on a Yorkshire moor.
I know another one who goes on group holidays to Scotland with his mates and rides around off road all over the hills.
These people seem to think they can go where they please.

It does look fun doesn't it ? 😃 Imagine how fun it would be if it was still raining like last couple of days 😳🫣😀

Shame about your encounters, but I'm sure Olympians wouldn't be 'training' in areas like that 😉 Most of our GB athletes train abroad anyway 👍

I’m sure you’re right. I was just pointing out that in my experiences with mountain bikers they are all rectums that don’t give a fig.

Lots more than you'll be aware of Grizedale for instance has specific bike only tracks which are one way, so other such places will do the same.

Bronze in the K1 kayaking! Beast of a run from Jess Fox always looked way beyond the rest of the field, but it was a superb run for Bronze for Kimberley Woods. Fox had down a fair way before her, so she knew she hadn't won, but was over the moon with her performance!  So she should be

Was a great event with the medal listers gripping their seats 🫣

And of course, a well earned bronze for KW 👏😃

What you seem to hear a lot with this Olympics are several athletes who have made a comeback after suffering mental health problems , even Adam Peaty who have just won a Silver for swimming made a comeback after mental health and drink problems , is this more widespread than we are led to believe ? :hmm:

There's a lot of pressure on the top athletes to perform,  they'll pressure themselves as well, this was Peaty's 3rd Olympics and he's the poster boy for swimming.

If all you do is train and compete at the top level it'll have an effect at some point

I can still remember when the Olympics were for amateur athletes, less pressure in those days.

Just the other day there was a piece on tv about David Wilkie he retired from the sport because he could not do it and make a living, so had to make a choice, he was 22 when he retired.Just think what he might have gone on to do in the pool if he could have carried on.
His amazing achivements are one of the things that got me into swimming in a competative way.

I feel sorry for the likes of Peaty.
We all know that the Chinese are continuing in the communist tradition of industrial doping.  In time, all the clean athletes’ medals will be upgraded, but they miss out on the joy of winning on the day.

The Chinese didn't medal, it was the Italian took the gold by a couple of hundredths of a second.

This is Spitz and Phelps, both doing Butterfly but the technique and body position is totally different, apparently 9 seconds which at these levels is massive

It’s a broader point that just him - hence, “the likes of…”

Yes I can fully understand that , you need a lot of bottle ( and I don't mean drink ) to compete and train in the very high standard that is required in this day and age , records can be beaten but only by the limited few , I watched some of the women archery yesterday and my god you need a steady hand .:good:

I dare say they do to an extent , it effect anyone and everyone to a certain degree and age is no barrier , we are living in a ever changing world and not always a nice one :drinks:
