Chamber Brushes

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking of trying to turn a few shotgun chamber brushes for a while.

A big thank you to Old Boggy for helping me with dimensions, and kindly posted his very nice rosewood brush the next day to me, to take measurements off.

I played around with a prototype style and finally decided on the ones in the photos.

I had a set of threading taps, which matched the brush end and proceeded to turn the handle to the shape I required.

I tapped the brush end to accept the Bisley and Parker Hale type brushes.

I ordered a piece of brass rod and turned it on the wood lathe, and drilled and tapped to secure the brass to the handle.

The 2 handles in the photos are Walnut (light coloured) and Wenge ( dark coloured) and pleased with how they turned out.

Thank you all for your comments, and I’m going to tweak the design a bit.

I’m going to rework the brass on the walnut brush , as this was the first one I completed, and tidy up the profile.

I made a prototype handle out of Sapele for the measurements from Old Boggy’s chamber brush
